The PC version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has received DualSense support, which notably allows players to experience the PlayStation 5 controller’s adaptive triggers. This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has quietly boosted the open-world title’s DualSense capabilities. In mid-December 2020, weeks after the game’s launch, an update sneakily improved DualSense’s haptic feedback in AC Valhalla.

Interestingly, another major title received DualSense support just a couple of months ago – Metro Exodus. A stealthy patch for PC’s Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition unlocked the PS5 controller’s impressive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality. The gamepad has worked on PC since the PS5’s November 2020 rollout; however, its most notable features weren’t enabled until the aforementioned first-person shooter implemented haptics and adaptive triggers. There does exist one drawback, though, given that using DualSense on PC requires a wired connection.

Andy Robinson, Editor at Video Games Chronicle, noticed that a new patch stealthily added DualSense support to the PC iteration of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. According to Robinson, the only functionality available as of now is the adaptive triggers, which AC Valhalla uses for firing Eivor’s bow and arrow. A half-press on the R2 button stops the arrow from firing, while a full trigger press lets loose the projectile. It works in the same manner as AC Valhalla’s PS5 version, so fans on PC who don’t own a DualSense aren’t missing out on too much with regards to the latest Assassin’s Creed entry. Robinson posted a demonstration of the DualSense’s minimal integration in the following tweet:

It’s neat that PC fans are slowly but surely receiving more reasons to invest in a PlayStation 5 controller. And it all seems part of Sony’s plan to further support its products on PC. The first evidence of said intentions came with the launch of Horizon: Zero Dawn on PC in 2020, a release that was later followed by Days Gone’s migration to the platform.

PC support from the PlayStation brand won’t stop there, either. After all, Horizon’s PC launch received a 250 percent return on investment for Sony. Plus, a May 2021 finance presentation suggested Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End could serve as the next PlayStation exclusive to hit PC.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
