Cosplayer Fran Martínez perfectly recreates one of Attack on Titan‘s most beloved characters, Sasha Braus, in her season 4 look for a recent cosplay. Sasha made her debut in the episode 2 of the series, “That Day: The Fall of Shiganshina, Part 2,” in April 2013. The character is voiced by Japanese voice actress Yū Kobayashi, with Ashly Burch and Megan Shipman performing the role in the English dub.

Born in Dauper Village, Sasha was a friendly, food-loving girl who joins the class of the 104th Training Corps at the same time as Eren (Yuki Kaji), Mikasa (Yui Ishikawa), and Armin (Marina Inoue) following the fall of the Shigashina district. After surviving the breach of Trost, she joins the Survey Corps alongside close friend Connie Springer (Hiro Shimono), proving herself time and time again against the horrors of the Titans. Despite being a favorite of both fans and editors behind the scenes, when season 4 began in 2020, Sasha was one of the first mainstay characters of the series to die, being shot in the chest by Eldian Warrior candidate Gabi Braun (Ayane Sakura) in episode 8, “Assassin’s Bullet.” Though she sadly met her end, Sasha remains one of the series most fondly remembered characters, and one cosplayer has brought the Survey Corps member to life once more.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Uploading on her Instagram account, Martínez shares three images of her cosplay of Sasha’s season 4 look. Captured by photographer Francisco Curihuinca, the images feature Martínez posing in character amongst a seemingly disused outdoor environment. Martínez’s cosplay perfectly translates the character from animation into real-life, replicating Sasha’s black Scout Regiment uniform as she wields a rifle. Alongside the photos, the cosplayer shares two images of Sasha from the anime for comparison, while also thanking followers for their support. Check out Martínez’s post below:

With the character inspiring real-world snacks, Sasha stands out from her fellow classmates of the 104th for her friendship with Connie and incredible appetite, as her potato-stealing antics during her first appearance earned her the nickname “Potato Girl” from fans. Despite this early popularity, Sasha could have suffered a terrible fate early on in the series, as original drafts for volume 8/9 of Attack on Titan had the character give her life to hold back an onslaught of Titans. Attack on Titan editor Kawakubo Shintaro revealed in an interview that once he’d seen Sasha’s fate in the storyboards, he spoke with series creator Hajime Isayama, leading to the writer reconsidering Sasha’s earlier death.

While season 4 will see many characters meet their end, Sasha’s death is a shocking moment that still remains with audiences, telling them after a flashback arc that no character is safe. Despite this, Martínez’s cosplay is a brilliant tribute to the character, bringing her perfectly to life while Curihuinca’s photography helps replicate the anime’s tone. This amazing work is also a good reminder of the impact Attack on Titan has had on a generation of anime fans before its end, inspiring them to create and make their own art.
