The critically acclaimed, most-watched anime of all time Attack on Titan has two video game adaptations, and two is not enough to cover such a vast story, making a trilogy seem like the obvious choice. Dubbed Attack on Titan and Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, the two games have been widely praised by fans for sticking to their source material, while telling a brand new story altogether. As the anime comes to an end this year, it would be a great time for Japanese developer Koei Tecmo (who also made the Nioh series), to release a threequel for the game series.

The first episode of the second part of Attack on Titan’s final season has just been released. The anime is quite popular, being something of a modern epic, and is in fact so popular that multiple streaming services such as Crunchyroll were saddled with technical difficulties due to the huge influx of fans vying to watch the new episode earlier this Sunday. Attack on Titan was even deemed to be the most-watched show in the United States earlier in 2021 when the first part of season four was released.

While Activision has plans to release a Call of DutyAttack on Titan crossover, Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is a game that can fulfill any Attack on Titan fan’s dream. Boasting smooth combat mechanics and an RPG-like story, the game allows players to play as their own customizable Survey Corps scout, and even gives the character their own backstory during the events of Shiganshina from episode one. The story of the game allows players to play as their characters through the events of season one, while seasons two and three are played as the characters featured in the anime.

Attack on Titan 3 Can Bring Back The Player’s Customizable Character

A new Attack on Titan game has the possibility to delve even further into the RPG mechanics of Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle. Similar to the crossover anime video game Jump ForceAttack on Titan: Final Battle 2, allowed players to create their own character and play through the story of season one. While the second game only allowed fans to play as their character for the events of the first season, Attack on Titan 3 could bring the custom character back. This would allow for playing through the events of seasons one through four as their custom character and allow the game to tell a brand new story set in the events of one that has already been told.

The Full Story Of Attack on Titan Could Be Told In A New Game

With the manga ending being released and the anime soon coming to a close, Attack on Titan 3 would be a perfect way for fans to revisit the full story of the modern epic in one full package. Similar to its predecessors and Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, Attack on Titan 3 could allow fans to play through each of the events in the anime’s story. The events of the final season would be an extremely intense and exciting act for players to play through, especially through the eyes of their own custom character. The story of the threequel could also tell the events of the Rumbling and the final battle in the series. On top of the original events of the anime, the game could show some side stories featuring the custom character, adding more adventure and lore into the narrative.

Attack on Titan 3 Could Build Upon The Gameplay Of Its Predecessors

The first two Attack on Titan games had some solid gameplay when it came to Titan slaying and the use of the 3D maneuver gear. Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle especially had some great controls and movement that satisfied players with its hack and slash combat. Titan slaying feels a lot like Shadow of the Colossus’s spiritual sequel, where the player must find the giant’s weak spots in order to defeat them. At the same time, the game can occasionally feel janky or even frustrating, and is prone to some repeated issues. Once in the air, grappling onto Paradis’s buildings is a breeze, but pinpointing where to attack Titans and aiming for the nape can be a real challenge – to the point it can become tiresome.

Attack on Titan 3 could give the gameplay and combat mechanics of its predecessors a well-needed upgrade, building on their solid foundations, while also adding new mechanics as well. Season 4 introduced some brand-new weaponry like rifles to the people of Paradis. Attack on Titan 3 could delve into some third-person shooter mechanics when entering the Marley arc. It could even look something similar to Fortnite’s web-swinging Spider-Man crossover, where the player can grapple to an area and swap to a new weapon with the click of a button. Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle introduced Titan battles into the games as well, allowing players to control Titans and use them in PvE combat. A new game could most likely build upon those controls, making battles feel more authentic and brutal and possibly utilize Titans in PvP combat.

New-Gen Consoles Could Make Attack on Titan 3 An Even Better Experience

With the use of new-gen tech like the PlayStation 5’s haptic feedback, swinging around Paradis or Marley in ODM gear would be a real treat for fans. The game could even go for an open-world setting, allowing players to travel more freely and widely around environs from the show. Utilizing hardware technology like the DualSense 5 and ray tracing could help Attack on Titan 3 be a lot more mainstream and impress players with amazing graphics and immersive gameplay.

The story of Attack on Titan is finally coming to a close after twelve years, but that does not mean the hype will be over. If Koei Tecmo does decide to create a new Attack on Titan game, it could keep talk around the anime going for the next few years. By building up on its RPG narrative and immersive hack and slash gameplay, a threequel would be a great way to tie another bow on the story. The prospect of an Attack on Titan 3 is exciting and would be a great treat for fans of the modern epic.
