Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, whether new fans after the show arrived on Netflix or long-time fans, can all agree that there are many great quotes and bits of wisdom to be gained from the series. Throughout the three seasons, many characters say a lot of inspiring things about human nature, friendship, forgiveness, and more.

Many of these quotes get to the main themes of the series and are why it’s been so popular with people of all ages over the years. Here are the most inspiring quotes from the The Last Airbender.

10 “You miscalculated. I love Zuko more than I fear you.”

One major theme from The Last Airbender is the power of love and connection over fear and violence. While Mai goes along with Azula’s plans and aids her crimes in many ways, although often half-heartedly, she shows that she has a side of her that values love above all else.

When she betrays Azula to save Zuko, she says this line that reminds us all to choose love over fear.

9 “There is nothing wrong with letting the people who love you help you.”

One unlikely but adorable meeting in the second season occurs when Toph and Uncle Iroh meet in the Earth Kingdom.

Toph is struggling with allowing herself to need other people and be taken care of, and Uncle Iroh offers her these words of wisdom. This quote is a good reminder to let yourself be taken care of and that it’s not weak to need help from other people.

8 “I know sometimes it hurts more to hope and it hurts more to care.”

This is a line that Katara says to Aang after App has been taken by the sandbenders.

Aang is extremely distraught and has given up hope after losing his beloved friend. It’s an emotional scene, and Katara reminds Aang that even though it can be really hard to care about things, it’s worth it in the end.

7 “The Air Nomads love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new love.”

When Aang meets Guru Pathik who teaches him about chakras, Pathik offers many words of wisdom that can apply to many people, not just Aang. While Aang is struggling with his grief of losing so many people, Pathik reminds him of how love continues on in the world.

This is a beautiful reminder of how even in grief we can carry our loved ones forward and find new ways to connect and love the world and others around us.

6 “While it is always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing.”

One of the most emotional short stories ever acne on The Last Airbender is the one where Iroh is celebrating the birthday of his late son, Lu Ten.

Before he sings the heartbreaking “soldier boy” song, he helps a man who has turned to a life of crime because he has no money. He then says this inspiring line about believing in yourself and also letting others help you.

5 “You can’t knock me down!”

One of the most frustrating storylines from the series occurs in season one when Katara isn’t allowed to train with Master Pakku because she’s a girl.

The sexism is really frustrating to watch, and Katar is rightfully angry about the unfairness. She challenges Pakku to a fight, and even though she isn’t skilled enough to defeat him yet, it’s clear she has immense power. Her fierceness and willpower is definitely inspiring.

4 “Sharing tea with a fascinating stranger is one of life’s true delights.”

Uncle Iroh is definitely one of the most inspiring c characters on the show. Given all he’s been through, his major change of heart, and his old age, he has a different perspective on life than the young teen characters.

While this quote might not be about grand adventures, it speaks to the importance of the small things in life and how building relationships is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

3 “You must gain balance within yourself before you can bring balance to the world.”

This is another bite of wisdom that Guru Pathik says to Aang during their spiritual training. This is such an inspiring quote because it reminds people watching that in order to help the world heal we also have to heal ourselves.

While this doesn’t mean we have to be perfect, taking the time to work on yourself is the first step in healing other problems around you.

2 “Some friendships are so strong, they can even transcend lifetimes.”

This quote might be one of the most tear-inducing from the entire series because it really speaks to what the show is all about. Avatar Roku says this to Aang in regards to the fact that they were both friends with Monk Gyatso. And, the quote is repeated as the Gaang holds hands while on a cliff face.

It’s a beautiful line that, regardless of religious or spiritual belief, points to the joy of friendship.

1 “Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not.”

This is another gem from Uncle Iroh that he says to Zuko when they are living as refugees in Ba Sing Se. While Zuko is frustrated and feels like he’s wasting his life, Iroh reminds him that life can’t be stopped.

Life will occur no matter what we do, so all we can do is try to make the best of the situation.
