Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Zuko become Azula in an epic wipe it down video. The hit animated series originally ran on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. Netflix made all three seasons available to stream earlier this year, reigniting the original fanbase and drawing in new fans. As a result, there has been a veritable renaissance of Avatar: The Last Airbender fan-created content.

Although Avatar Aang is technically the main protagonist of the series, many fans continue to be drawn to prince Zuko’s overall character arc. Zuko is introduced in the series as the banished Fire Nation prince, desperate to capture Aang to restore his honor in the eyes of his father, Fire Lord Ozai. Ozai favors Zuko’s sister, the Fire Nation princess Azula, who is Zuko’s polar opposite in every single way. Both royal siblings are loyal to the Fire Nation. However, Zuko eventually recognizes how the Fire Nation terrorized the other nations was wrong, while Azula remains steadfast in her unrelenting cruelty to anyone who won’t bow to her will. To say that Zuko undergoes immense growth from the first season to the last is an understatement, and that’s why he remains a fan-favorite to this day.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Eugene Lee Yang from The Try Guys managed to pull off an effortless Zuko to Azula cosplay in a fantastic wipe it down video. Yang does a great job transitioning from Zuko, complete with a facial scar, to Azula, serving the camera with an epic Fire Nation princess gaze. Check out the entire video from Yang’s Twitter page below.

With Halloween just a few days away, Yang’s cosplay is the perfect way for Avatar: The Last Airbender fans to get into the spooky season spirit. Even the towels Zuko and Azula use in Yang’s video match the character’s respective fire-types that they used against each other in the series’s final Agni Kai. What was great about Zuko and Azula’s writing was that they were opposites character-wise and on opposing trajectories for their character arcs. While Azula began as a confident and self-assured princess destined for Fire Nation glory, she eventually melted away into a crazed shell of her former self, her soul incinerated by her desperate desire for power and adoration.

Zuko, on the other hand, grew from a boy craving a shred of any fatherly love from Ozai to a bonafide hero worthy of being an honest and just Fire Lord. His decision to switch sides and join Team Avatar to defeat his father has to be one of the greatest character moments in animated history. Zuko’s most significant victory was finding genuine friends and realizing he had had a father-figure all along in the wise, tea-loving Uncle Iroh. Ironically, Azula herself was also a catalyst for Zuko’s arc.

There are many great characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender but Zuko and Azula are, without a doubt, two of the best. Cosplays have always been a fun way to celebrate fandom, especially around Halloween. Zuko and Azula’s journeys may have ended on the show already, but the love for their characters burns like an eternal flame.
