Avengers: Endgame final battle seemingly features a big Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) plot hole. It’s been more than two years since the Joe and Anthony Russo film hit theaters. Marvel Studios is currently transitioning into Phase 4 with a string of shows and movies released in 2021. However, fans continue to revisit Avengers: Endgame through video-on-demand services to relive its many epic moments, and this also allows audiences to further scrutinize the blockbuster in great detail.

Picking up after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame saw its titular heroes at their lowest. After five years dealing with the consequences of Thanos’ (Josh Bronlin) work, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) showed up and suggested the idea of the “Time Heist.” It took more convincing for some heroes than others to join the mission, but eventually, the surviving Avengers came together and time-traveled to collect the Infinity Stones and create the Blip. Their efforts were rewarded when they were able to reverse Thanos’ Snap, setting up the film’s epic final battle.

As satisfying as Avengers: Endgame‘s third act action set piece was, it had some VFX lapses. One error involving Star-Lord was spotted by Reddit user meesa_lukai. During the film’s big “Avengers Assemble” moment, Peter Quill can be seen flying as the heroes charged towards Thanos and his minions, but he only has propulsors on his shoes. This small detail being pointed out caused many users to ask how exactly Star-Lord is able to fly will so little power. This isn’t the first error spotted in the Avengers: Endgame final battle. There was also a point in the fight where Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) hand was just hovering over Valkyrie’s (Tessa Thompson) shoulder instead of properly hanging on, as Peter Parker rode her unicorn to get the Infinity Gauntlet far from Thanos. Meanwhile, during Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts’ (Gwyneth Paltrow) team-up, there is a moment in which the latter appears to be shooting at nothing. But unlike these mix-ups, Star-Lord’s improbably flying could possibly be explained by a later shot of him wearing a proper jetpack. Perhaps the jetpacks was a detail that the VFX artists missed adding in to this particular scene.

Admittedly, it’s still an odd error, and in an ideal world Avengers: Endgame mistakes like this wouldn’t exist. That being said, it’s also inconsequential to the movie’s narrative, which makes it easier for fans to forgive. Given the sheer number of details in the impressive action sequence, it would be almost impossible for the VFX designers not to miss a small thing here or there, especially since the team was also on a tight schedule. Overall, Avengers: Endgame still proved an incredibly satisfying ending to the Infinity Saga, and most fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
