Avengers: Endgame featured a list of the Vanished with names that have greater meaning behind-the-scenes at Marvel. The cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War saw Thanos emerge triumphant, fulfilling his insane goal of erasing half the life in the universe. The world mourned, tallied the dead, and then desperately attempted to move on.

Part of the grieving process involved establishing monuments to those lost, hauntingly known as “Vanished”. In one key scene in Avengers: Endgame, Scott Lang walked through the streets of San Francisco until he found some of these monuments. He desperately rushed through them, checking to see if his daughter Cassie had survived the Decimation. She had, but, in a shocking twist for Scott, he realized he was believed to have been one of the Vanished as well.

But Scott wasn’t the only name with significance. Many of the names on the stones are of different members of Marvel’s production crew (hat-tip to one observant Redditor). It’s an effective tribute to all the hard-working men and women who helped bring Avengers: Endgame to life, but there’s actually a business reason for it as well; writers have to go through a long process to get clearance to add any names, checking to make sure nobody with a given name will sue them if they use it in their film. It’s much easier to get clearance from people they already work with, or from friends and family.

Here are the names from the monuments dedicated to the Vanished:

  • Alistair Darby: A VFX artist for Avengers: Infinity War
  • Emily Denker: A VFX editor for Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Erika Denton: A clearance executive who’s been working with Marvel since Iron Man 2, and has also been involved with a range of Marvel animated TV shows
  • Paul Detlefson: A set dresser in Iron Man, Ant-Man, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Erik DeYoung: A prop maker for Iron Man 3
  • Geoff Diamond: A CG artist for Avengers: Infinity War
  • Paz Drimer: A digital production administrator for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man & the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Giorgio Lafrata: Nobody with this name has ever worked for Marvel Studios, but it’s probably a mis-spelling of Giorgio Lafratta; he was a hair/fur groomer on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Daniella LaGraffe: An assistant accountant for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Mårten Larsson: An associate VFX supervisor for Avengers: Infinity War
  • Marco La Torre: An animator in Iron Man 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Charlotte Lee: A set decoration buyer in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Talia Leone: A payroll accountant in Thor, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Sungmin Lim: An integration artist for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame
  • Mary Livanos: Manager of production and development for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, associate producer of Captain Marvel, co-producer Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3
  • Lara Lom: A VFX coordinator for Guardians of the Galaxy, VFX producer for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame
  • Hannah Long: A VFX editor in Avengers: Endgame
  • Susana Lou: A digital asset coordinator for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame; also worked on the first seasons of Marvel Television’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones
