The Avengers regularly face off against some of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe, but few enemies have defeated them so handily as Anti-Man did during their first encounter. The Avengers’ most underrated bad guy managed not only to take out Marvel’s most powerful hero but would have likely killed the entire superteam if it wasn’t for his powers working against him. Anti-Man proved to be quite a threat.

Conner Sims and Adam Brashear’s lives were changed forever following a reactor explosion that left the scientists and veterans with incredible powers beyond human comprehension. While Brashear would gain anti-matter physiology and become the Blue Marvel, Sims’s body was turned into unstable energy, meaning he was incapable of staying in the same place for long. After a fight with Blue Marvel, Sims was thought to be killed. However, when he returned decades later, Anti-Man showed the Avengers he was one of the most powerful villains they ever faced, nearly killing the entire team.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Adam: The Legend of Blue Marvel #1 by Kevin Grevioux, Mat Broome, John Rauch, Sean Parsons, Alvaro Lopez, and Dave Lanphear, the comic opens with a massive battle occurring between the Avengers and Anti-Man. The new villain takes out the Wasp and Ms. Marvel, and Ares and She-Hulk are quickly dispatched. When Sentry, Marvel’s most powerful hero, tries to stop Anti-Man, the villain somehow takes him down. Anti-Man is about to kill the Avengers before his powers dissolve him out of battle.

The Sentry remarks he’s never seen someone so powerful, as they pick themselves up after nearly being defeated by Anti-Man. The Avengers would be forced to call Blue Marvel into battle, as the hero represented their best chance at taking out the villain. After nearly losing to Anti-Man again, Blue Marvel joins the Avengers, who finally defeats him. Blue Marvel would use his powers to disintegrate Anti-Man. However, Anti-Man wouldn’t stay dead, as he would return from a dimension outside reality in The Ultimates, where he went on a pretty intense cosmic journey involving Thanos and Galactus.

Anti-Man showed in his first fight against the Avengers that he’s one of their most underrated villains, as he would have annihilated the superteam if his powers didn’t send him out of battle. Taking out the likes of Sentry, Ares, and She-Hulk, with limited pushback, shows Anti-Man had what it takes to destroy the superteam for good. Fortunately, the Avengers would find Blue Marvel and stop Anti-Man before it was too late.
