The Mandalorian‘s Giancarlo Esposito has shared some interesting new information regarding Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, at GalaxyCon ahead of beginning production of the third season of the Disney+ show. Esposito plays Moff Gideon, a former officer in the Empire’s Imperial Security Bureau prior to its fall. In the show, he leads a faction of Imperial remnants and has spent the last two seasons hunting Grogu to use in his experiments. He also wielded the Darksaber, a powerful Mandalorian artifact previously carried by Mandalorian leaders. He was last seen being captured by Din Djarin and his cohorts after they freed Grogu from Gideon’s clutches in the season 2 finale.

Despite his villainous characters, Esposito is incredibly soft-spoken and kind in person, as evidenced in a recent video shared by WRAL from GalaxyCon in Raleigh, NC. The video shows a young fan presenting the actor with a Baby Yoda stuffed toy, which Esposito gladly accepts. He then tells the young fan:

I love this Baby Yoda. I am going to get this child, and it’s for a very different reason than many people think. This child has magic powers … and this child can see the future, and we want everyone to know eventually on this show that this child could save our universe.

Despite his young age, Baby Yoda has a great mastery of the Force, which has been shown many times on The Mandalorian. However, the news that he can apparently see the future is certainly a revelation. That said, Yoda was deeply prophetic during the Star Wars films, and considering that Grogu is from the same species, it would make sense that he would share similar powers. Grogu will make a return in The Mandalorian season 3, so it’s entirely possible that we may evidence of such powers at some point during the series.

Filming for The Mandalorian’s spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett wrapped back in June, with Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen returning as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. Filming on season three of The Mandalorian is expected to begin soon despite the fact that Mando himself, Pedro Pascal, is currently filming The Last of Us TV series for HBO. That shouldn’t hold up filming though, as body-doubles have often filled in for Pascal on-set due to the character’s helmeted appearance, with Pascal’s lines being added in later. Esposito is expected to return as Gideon in the series, with the actor having promised that fans can expect to see more of the character, although little else is currently known about The Mandalorian season three.
