The Bachelor star Arie Luyendyk Jr. and his wife, former contestant Lauren Burnham, opened up about how their twins are reaching milestones at different times. Arie was the lead in The Bachelor season 22For the most part, the season avoided drama, save for the end. Arie was in between two girls, the enchantingly funny Becca Kufrin and the quiet but sweet Lauren. While Becca was Bachelor Nation’s choice, as well as the choice of Arie’s family, it was looking as though he preferred Lauren. To everyone’s surprise, Arie seemingly succumbed to his family’s wishes and proposed to Becca. Of course, she said yes, and Lauren was sent packing. But that wasn’t the end.

Only a few months into their engagement Arie admitted to a camera that he still had feelings for Lauren. He even reached out to her, and she said she’d be willing to give him another chance if he wasn’t engaged. Arie promptly asked Becca, his blissfully oblivious fiancé, to meet him in person so they could talk. In rather horrendous taste, Arie decided to break up with her on camera, even admitting his feelings for Lauren, all the while Becca tried hard to keep her composure. When all was said and done, Bachelor Nation rallied to Becca’s side, even getting her own season of The Bachelorette, and Arie was engaged to Lauren. Just a month before the two got married, they announced they were expecting a beautiful baby girl. And now just three years later, the couple has given birth to a set of twins, baby boy Lux and girl Senna.

Lauren and Arie’s twins are now 8 months old. In an interview with Us Weekly, the couple opened up about who’s reaching milestones quicker. “Senna has figured out how to use a walker. Lux has not. He just sits there and screams still,” Lauren said with a giggle. She added how “neck and neck” their kids are for the most part, continuing, “Sometimes Lux will do something before and then Senna will do something before Lux. So it’s just always a competition. They’re very close.” When asked if they could see the twins’ personalities already, Arie responded, “They have different personalities…Our son is sort of like a little bulldozer. He’s such a boy. Our girl is all smiles with her whole body. It’s really cute to see that’s already taking shape at such a young age.

Despite the joy their children give them, Lauren and Arie have been honest about the struggles that come along with raising a set of twins, as well as a toddler. “I think a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, yes, I have mine a year apart,’ and we’re like, ‘No, that’s not the same,’” Arie continued. “Unless you have twins, I don’t think you can really relate. Lauren confirmed that, adding that it took seven months after her twins were born for her to actually sleep through the night, saying, “If you have a toddler and one baby, you at least can expect to get a few hours at a time. But then when you have twins, they’re somehow on opposite schedules all through the night.” The couple has also been honest about Lauren’s struggles with postpartum depression and her hospitalization after developing mastitis in her breasts that have since prevented her from breastfeeding. “I still have guilt about it occasionally,” Lauren admitted.

Despite the trials and tribulations of parenthood, Lauren and Arie seem to be taking the hardships in stride. Ironically, even though season 22’s ending was widely criticized, Lauren and Arie are a true Bachelor success story. They seem to be a well-rounded couple who support each other during their challenges and, more importantly, are good parents to their three children. While they didn’t get the fairytale ending in the way the franchise promises, they’re still living their happily ever after.
