Daria Rose, who appeared on The Bachelor season 26, revealed the financial strain put on contestants after joining the reality series. After a season of disappointment involving Clayton Echard, with many fans of Bachelor Nation calling season 26 dull, the series continues to face problems from within. While Daria didn’t play an integral role on the show, she did make her first appearance in the initial episodes of Clayton’s season, quickly exiting the season after beginning eliminations.

Even though the ABC dating series appears to all be fun and games, fans have seen less glamorous moments from The Bachelor over the past year. From Clayton struggling with body image to Demi Burnett sharing her difficult journey through her autism diagnosis, The Bachelor has endured a number of trialing life events for its stars, with the drama and complexity overpowering the usually light and airy nature of the series.

Recently, Daria wrote an article for Insider, detailing the financial loss she took trying to win over Clayton on The Bachelor during season 26. While the financial compensation on The Bachelor is hardly discussed in detail, Daria was open about the way she spent a small fortune trying to impress Clayton (and the cameras). Daria explained that “love is[n’t] priceless,” exposing that she “spent about $4,400 on dresses, shoes, makeup and hair” during her stint on The Bachelor. Wasting a large amount of cash just to be kicked off the show so early on, Daria’s article is tinged with her disappointment about the experience, recovering from the financial (and emotional) loss she faced while competing in season 26. Financially responsible for having various outfits for “six weeks” worth of airtime, Daria was blindsided when she was “eliminated…on night one.” With five additional outfits that were unseen by audiences but funded by Daria herself, the reality star explained that extensive planning and preparation goes into competing on the series.

ABC’s The Bachelor has always been fashion-focused, but Daria now seems to shed a negative light on the elegant attire seen on the show. Expected to have a handful of lavish dresses for formal occasions, Daria explained that contestants also have a pricey “packing” list full of “miscellaneous” items, coming to a total of $800. While clothing appeared to be her biggest concern going in, Daria also put a great deal of time and effort into her hair and makeup as well. Even though Daria didn’t get much use out of her extraordinary spending in preparation for the show, she claimed that she is making the most of the situation, “repurposing or donating” the clothing she purchased. With much more precision than fans might have thought, the former Bachelor contestant helps audiences visualize the costly processes of being featured on the series.

The Bachelor season 26 has been defined by a lot of criticism, especially about Clayton’s indecision and “stressful” choices on air. Now audiences are reminded of a new area of the series to question, The Bachelor‘s superficiality. Expected to fund a long list of items, including an entirely new wardrobe for the season, Bachelor contestants are asked to risk their own money for a chance at love, which often ends in tearful limo rides home. Risking a great deal of money for an engagement, Daria appears skeptical of the process though positive that she can make the most of her financial “investment.”

The Bachelor season 26 finale airs Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
