Demi Burnett, who appeared as a contestant on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor, took to Twitter to congratulate him after coming out as gay. Burnett, who is openly bisexual, warmly welcomed him to the LGBTQ+ community.

Colton Underwood led season 25 of The Bachelor after appearing as a contestant on Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette. The 29-year-old former football player’s season heavily focused on his virginity. Underwood quickly fell for contestant Cassie Randolph and ended the show early to pursue a relationship with her. Although contestant Demi Burnett quickly became a fan favorite on Underwood’s season, she was ultimately eliminated during week 6. On Wednesday morning, Underwood appeared on Good Morning America to publicly share that he is gay.

After Underwood’s interview aired on Wednesday morning, Demi Burnett shared her support on Twitter. “Welcome to the community brother,” she wrote accompanied by rainbow and sparkle emojis. While many of the replies to her tweet contained similarly supportive messages, many of Burnett’s followers pointed out Underwood’s concerning history with ex-girlfriend Cassie Randolph. After Underwood and Randolph broke up last year, Underwood allegedly stalked Randolph and placed tracking devices on her car. Randolph took out a restraining order against Underwood, which she ultimately dropped. Burnett followed her initial tweet with another wherein she joked about all of her gay friends asking her to set them up with Underwood. She also shared a meme poking fun at how both Burnett and Underwood are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Although Underwood is the first known gay Bachelor, Burnett was part of the first gay storyline on the American franchise’s history. On season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise, producers brought in Burnett’s former girlfriend Kristian Haggerty. The two resumed their relationship while filming the show and got engaged during the finale. However, the pair announced only a few months later that they had ended their engagement. Both Burnett and Haggerty have since moved on to other relationships.

Burnett is not the only member of Bachelor Nation to send her well wishes to Underwood following his emotional GMA interview. Chris Harrison, who served as the host of all of the Bachelor franchise shows until he stepped down indefinitely earlier this year, posted a photo of himself and the former Bachelor to celebrate Underwood’s coming out. Bachelor Nation fans and alumni have also been sharing their support on social media. Hopefully, Burnett and Underwood will be joined by more LGBT Bachelor, Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise contestants in the near future.
