Bachelor: Everything We Know About Matt James’ Dad Manny James

Matt James from The Bachelor recently came to terms with his past by having a conversation with his estranged father, Manny James. This conversation happened during the latest episode of the show. As his journey on The Bachelor comes to an end (and a possible proposal approaches), Matt wants to ensure that he’s free of emotional baggage. His father has made some mistakes and these errors have shaped his son’s views on love. Matt has mentioned that his dad has not been present in his life.

Matt has discussed how his parents’ divorce has impacted his life in many ways, including the way that he navigates his relationships. His father was guilty of infidelity, which led to divorce. Matt was raised by his mother Patty Cucolo James, and his father Manny was not present for much of his life. Matt admits that he’s had trouble forming relationships and that this difficulty stems from seeing his parents’ relationship unravel.

In the latest episode of The Bachelor, Matt, who sometimes shows a more lighthearted side away from the show, got serious with Manny. They had an emotional conversation, where Matt shared how his dad had hurt him over the years. Matt did this in the hopes of making peace with his past. He expressed to his dad that he was disappointed and hurt by his lack of involvement in his sons’ lives. Matt revealed that his dad was not there when he needed him and Manny responded. Manny said that although he did not want to make excuses, nobody is perfect. It took some time, but Manny admitted that he made mistakes and does not want to see his son do the same. 

Matt took to Twitter to share how hard it was for him to have that conversation with his estranged father, Manny. It was difficult to have such a vulnerable conversation, especially knowing that it would be shared with the world. He notes that there are harmful stereotypes regarding Black fathers in the media, and he hopes that everyone recognizes the systemic issues at hand. Overall, the reality star, whose season has been impacted by alleged bullying, is grateful that he was able to be vulnerable with his father. Matt recognizes that he would not be the man he is today without him. 

Seeing infidelity at such a young age has impacted Matt in so many ways. This conversation between Matt and Manny was difficult, but in the end, it was beneficial for both parties to express their emotions. This confrontation was essential because it helped Matt to continue his journey to love with a sense of peace and a clear mind. It was something he needed to do in order to feel ready for this next phase of life. This relationship cannot be mended overnight, but talking through it is definitely a start. Moving forward, Matt said that he wants Manny to be a part of his life, and present in his family members’ lives as well. 

Matt’s relationship with Manny has been strained for a long time, but after their conversation, there is hope for the father and son to move forward and finally make amends. The season finale of The Bachelor is rapidly approaching and could lead to a possible engagement. After his conversation with his father, Matt is one step closer to proposing to the love of his life.  While his father may not have been present in his life, Matt is taking the initiative. He’s trying to make things right in order to find the relationship he has always wanted.
