Blake Horstmann tried to re-light his flame with former Bachelorette Becca Kufrin before she was cast in this season’s Bachelor in Paradise. Back in 2018, Becca competed for Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s heart, ending with the race car driver breaking off their engagement because he was still in love with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. After an intense and emotional After The Final Rose special, Becca was crowned the new Bachelorette and met Blake. Fast forward a few months, and Becca sent Blake home as her runner-up and got engaged to Garrett Yrigoyen.

After Becca’s season of TheBachelorette, she and her fiancé moved to Carlsbad, California. In June 2020, the former Bachelorette told fans that she was unsure where their relationship stood after Garrett showed support for police officers during the George Floyd protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. The couple decided to end their engagement four months later, leaving the door open for new and old romances.

Though Becca and Blake didn’t work out in front of ABC’s reality TV cameras, Blake revealed they almost re-sparked their flame on the Reality Life With Kate Casey podcast. “We did kind of chat here and there, and we were back in touch within the last, like, six months,” Blake said. “It kind of came down to if she was going to do Paradise or not.” Bachelor Nation knows from the upcoming promos that Becca does become a contestant on ABC’s hottest summer reality series, and seemingly makes a flirty connection with Thomas Jacobs, the villain from Katie Thurston’s season of the franchise.

Speaking about how this love reunion came about, Blake admits he was just as surprised as the rest of the world when there was reciprocated interest. “I always thought [Becca and Garrett] would never break up so like, I completely put her out of my head. It was never something, like, ‘When they break up…’ because I never thought they would,” Blake said. “When they did, it was, like, this weird thing of, ‘Well, I wonder if there’s anything still there?'” While the Colorado native was ready to jump in and explore what they could become without the pressures of the producers and cameras, it was a little too late since Becca was already leaning toward joining this season’s cast of Bachelor in Paradise“That show can change you and those producers get a hold of you. The show doesn’t like me, the show doesn’t want to see us together,” Blake said. “She has, like, the ABC podcast. That’s kind of her thing. She is very much involved in that show. We’ll see.”

The confirmation of Becca and Blake’s flirtatious reunion comes as no surprise to Bachelor Nation, as fans were already skeptical of the former flames since they were exchanging sly and flirty messages on Instagram. Unfortunately, it seems like Becca has decided to move forward and find a new and fresh connection, rather than settling back into one that she already knows. That said, stranger things have happened with the contestants of this franchise, and Becca might fly home from Bachelor in Paradise, knowing Blake is ultimately the man she’s looking for.
