In a recent interview former The Bachelorette winner Blake Moynes says that dating Katie Thurston has made him pickier when going out with women. While Blake did go on to win Katie’s season of The Bachelorette, he was first spotted on the season prior, with lead Clare Crawley. Blake wasn’t exactly a fan favorite on Clare’s season, as he came across as overly confident and even said he felt she was the woman for him. He couldn’t have been more wrong though, as two weeks into the season Clare got engaged to Dale Moss, and the two left the show, leaving producers scrambling to find a replacement. Tayshia Adams was then shuffled in to be The Bachelorette for the remaining men.

Blake made the choice to stay and vie for her attention, still not a fan favorite. Once again Blake would say in interviews he knew he met his wife, and Tayshia was the woman for him. Low and behold, he was eliminated right before hometown dates. He was never announced to be in Katie’s season and arrived as a surprise claiming he felt the two could have a connection and wanted to at least speak to her before giving up. To Bachelor Nations’ surprise, Katie allowed Blake to stay, and the two did seem to have genuine chemistry. In a shocking twist, most of the frontrunners left Katie’s season, which made either Blake or choosing to stay single her only choices. Katie choose Blake, and the two were engaged for only six months before, after some speculation of cheating on Katie’s part, the pair announced their breakup.

Now Blake is speaking out about how the whirlwind relationship, and his time on the show, have affected dating for him going forward. In an interview with Us Weekly, Blake opened up by saying, “I think I have more understanding of exactly what I want [and] I think [that] has made me more picky“. Though Blake does admit to having a “long list” of things he’d want in a partner, he seems to be in a good place for the time being, “I’m so happy where I am that I just feel, like, I don’t want somebody who could possibly take that down.

On top of that, Blake’s experience on now technically three seasons of The Bachelorette has essentially been three different relationships in rapid succession. In each one he’s learning what traits one lead has over the other, slowly whittling down the ones that matter the most to him until he knows exactly what he wants, “I think, in some weird way, [my breakup] hurt me in a sense where I’m finding the more that I fail, the more things that I find that I know I don’t want in a relationship“. For many contestants on The Bachelor, the environment can be a bit of a BootCamp for relationships. It’s teaching you how to develop and get to know someone quickly.

Blake certainly put himself through the wringer on his multiple seasons of The Bachelorette. He gave it his all with every woman and at first glance, one might assume he left empty-handed. But, Blake didn’t. Rather he’s left the series with new insight on what he wants and doesn’t want, in a future partner. Blake has admitted to going on a small number of dates since his breakup with Katie, and while there’s no confirmation on if he’ll ever be on another Bachelor show again, who knows what the future holds.
