Like any protective father, The Bachelorette season 16’s Tayshia’s father Desmond Adams Sr. worried about his daughter’s future. Having seen Tayshia go through heartbreak once already, Desmond made it quite clear when he asked her, “Why him?” But this wasn’t the first time that ABC viewers had met Mr. Adams. Tayshia’s father Desmond had first debuted on the franchise on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor to roast him. But who is The Bachelorette Tayshia’s father Desmond when he’s not stopping her from making “the biggest mistake” of her life?

When The Bachelorette fans were shown teasers about Tayshia’s father warning her about jumping into marriage no. 2, little did they expect her to feel so overwhelmed after it. But for those having met Mr. Adams before, knew about him roasting former NFL player Colton in his season too. While Colton has confessed that he was “falling in love,” with Tayshia, Desmond had pointed out he shouldn’t “lead anyone on.” The Bachelorette’s father did not mince any words during the hometown date when he said, “You seem like a smart man, right, and so I’m sure you can pick the right words.” Desmond has exclaimed, “I appreciate you, if you will, manning up, but… I just met you,”  as Colton asked for Tayshia’s hand in marriage. The conversation where Desmond had seen right through Colton’s intentions who was also “falling in love” with other women, showed his protectiveness towards Tayshia. And an encore of Desmond’s badass dad avatar took place again on The Bachelorette finale, which while it may have scared Tayshia, also helped her choose her winner – Zac Clark. Because just like season 16 host Chris Harrison had teased, “Tayshia’s dad definitely was not shy about expressing his opinion on his daughter in those relationships.”

The ethnic background of Tayshia was discussed in an earlier The Bachelorette episode when she’d discussed the Black Lives Matter movement with Ivan Hall before his opinion on religion was revealed. Back then, it was reported how Tayshia’s father, who’d famously warned her not to “microwave relationships” during her last The Bachelor stint, is African American, and her mother Rosario is a Mexican. Season 16’s The Bachelorette Tayshia who thus became the reality show’s first-ever Afro-Latina lead, also had three more siblings, brothers Desmond Jr. and Brice and sister Dominique.

Meanwhile, when Desmond is not busy grilling his daughter Tayshia’s love interests, or DMing The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison, he’s busy making his money as a debt consultant. As per Desmond’s LinkedIn, he used to work with Morgan Drexen, a debt settlement company. However, the company was in the limelight in 2013 for charging illegal upfront fees and deceiving consumers. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau then won a lawsuit asking Morgan Drexen to “pay almost $133 million” to the people enrolled, while the company was said to have gone bankrupt by 2017, according to ConsumerFinance. The Bachelorette fan-favorite Desmond is supposed to be now working at Settle It Inc, a service-driven debt settlement company, as a settlement manager, as per the details available on ZoomInfo.

Although Tayshia saw herself and Zac at an “8.95” it was definitely her father’s wise words that helped her dump Ben and pick her Bachelorette winner accordingly. But, is this the last of Desmond that the Bachelor Nation sees? Perhaps not. After all, with The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison predicting that Tayshia’s brother Brice could become a Bachelor in 10 years, Desmond might return to give more pep talks, as his daughter continues to jump in fountains and Ferris wheels, the world over, with Zac.
