The Bachelorette just wrapped a truly unprecedented season. After Clare Crawley’s dramatic exit, Tayshia Adams was brought in to take over. The 30-year-old had previously appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor as well as season 6 of Bachelor In Paradise. After being rejected by Colton, she had an on-again/off-again romance with John Paul Jones on the spin off show.

Now that she’s engaged to Zac Clark, will the third time finding love on reality TV be the charm? Bachelor Nation will have to wait and see if the couple splits, or becomes one of the franchise’s success stories. Perhaps they will be as happy as the former phlebotomist’s own parents, who have been married for 32 years. In her official ABC.com bio, she cited their marriage as proof the kind of love she wanted is possible. The Concordia University grad is very close to her family, including her beautiful and caring mother Rosario.

Rosario is Mexican, which makes Tayshia the first Afro-Latina Bachelorette, and the second Black Bachelorette after Rachel Lindsay. The California native wrote about growing up biracial in a June Instagram post about Black Lives Matter. In the caption, she reflected, “My parents sacrificed so much in order for my siblings and I to be surrounded by people that encouraged me to embrace my uniqueness.”  On the ABC series, Tayshia also had a thoughtful conversation about this with Ivan Hall.

In addition to Tayshia, Rosario and Desmond Adams have three other children- Desmond Jr., Bryce, and Dominique. The family made their first reality tv appearance during Colton’s hometowns. Both parents were skeptical of the former football player and admitted they were extra protective of Tayshia’s heart after her divorce. Rosario told her daughter “I just want to make sure that you are treated right and that you are loved unconditionally.”

When appearing on the Click Bait with Bachelor Nation podcast, Tayshia was asked which contestants her parents would give a first impression rose to. Tayshia said her mom would’ve picked Brendan Morais “because he’s super sweet.” Rosario’s own incredibly sweet and caring nature has been clear to viewers in her reality TV appearances. Tayshia gushed about this in a Mother’s Day Instagram post, where she called Rosario “my #1” and added “I aspire to be everything you are. The classiest, sweetest, most generous God loving woman with a side of fire & spice“.

Considering their strong and loving bond, Rosario’s input was obviously a major factor in the final choice. The Adams seemed wary of the returning Ben Smith, with the matriarch wanting to be sure his feelings for her daughter were “a forever thing.” Though Ben made a better than expected impression, it was clear Zac won them over. After seeing them together, Rosario noted that the pair had great chemistry. And Zac assured his potential future in-laws that in five years he saw himself and Tayshia together and happy. The Bachelorette viewers will see if that prediction for the relationship comes true. But a mom’s approval is surely a good way to start.
