Jed Wyatt, featured on The Bachelorette season 15, shared the damaging effect of producers forcing him into a “public” breakup with Hannah Brown. From controversial encounters in windmills to Hannah and Jed quickly falling out of love, season 15 was full of drama and heartbreak. While Hannah was a recurring figure within the franchise, she has been absent from recent Bachelor and Bachelorette seasons, with fans requesting a break from Hannah. Both Hannah and Jed appear to be distancing themselves from the series and focusing on their own lives.

While fans haven’t had many updates on Jed, Hannah has been active in the media outside of the series, being featured on Dancing With The Stars and releasing a book about her life experiences this November. With very different lives after their time on The Bachelorette, the chaotic couple moves forward from their painful past on the series, using their history on the show to pursue healthier relationships in the future. Both absent from Bachelor Nation, Jed and Hannah remain one of the most memorable couples to get engaged by the end of the series.

Released by US WEEKLY, Jed shared about his experiences on The Bachelorette and the pressure he felt from producers to “hash out” their breakup “public[ally].” After the scandal involving Jed having a secret girlfriend and his tumultuous end with Hannah, he shared how his entire experience on the series was painful, specifically the bullying that he encountered by fans of The Bachelorette. According to Jed, producers “insisted” that they break up “public[ally]” so that Bachelor Nation could “roast” him. After their relationship ended, Jed shared about the brutality he faced, with fans bashing his music career and telling him to “kill [himself].” Broken by the barrage of harmful comments he found online, Jed still points fingers at producers for their role in these toxic attacks that were directed at both himself and even “his family.”

In light of this cyberbullying and hurtful posts Jed faced after competing on The Bachelorette, the star shared how the horrible comments he was sent led him down a dark path of “drinking and partying.” While Jed claims he tried a number of outlets to help him cope with the abusive words he read from fans every day, he shared that the only thing that helped him survive was “his family” and “Ellen Decker, [his] girlfriend.” Even though Jed faced excruciating criticism and hate from Bachelor Nation and followers online, he appears to be picking up the pieces of his life and trying to put the mistakes of the past behind him, focusing on pursuing love in the present.

Currently pursuing his girlfriend Ellen and full of hope for the future, Jed reflects on his past yet emphasizes the love and support he has gained throughout the fallout of season 15. Having escaped the torment of fans and distanced himself from the series and the toxicity of producers, Jed warns about the series and the damaging impact of competing within the franchise. Parting with concern and warnings about the lengths that producers will go for entertainment, Jed exposes the hurt and mental health harm that results from participating in the popular series.

The Bachelorette season 18 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
