Former The Bachelorette lead Tayshia Adams and her fiancé Zac Clark are the latest franchise couple to experience trouble in paradise. After a year of being engaged, the two are reportedly taking a break from their relationship for the time being. At a glance, Tayshia and Zac appeared to be one of the strongest couples to come out of recent seasons. As the world witnessed the breakup of Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes, and Clare Crawley and Dale Moss, Tayshia and Zac were exploring the Big Apple and running marathons together. However, rumors have been swirling for a while that they’re not as happy as they look.

Zac, 36, got down on one knee on the season finale of The Bachelorette season 16. In the months that followed, the pair seemed to be heading in the right direction. Tayshia, 31, moved from California to Zac’s state of New York, while Zac regularly praised her for accepting his dark past as an addict. But every few weeks, eagle-eyed fans would notice a small detail they believed meant Tayshia and Zac were having issues. From Tayshia sporting a ring-less left hand, to Zac’s mom Beatrice Clark unfollowing Tayshia on social media, there were many moments Bachelor Nation thought they were over. Both Tayshia and Zac continuously debunked the gossip and assured their followers that everything was fine.

Yet, this time may be different. As reported by Life & Style, a source shared that Tayshia and Zac “are on a break” and “definitely taking some time apart to figure things out.” The source added, “It doesn’t look good.” Unlike previous incidences of breakup rumors, neither party has so far commented on the situation. On Twitter, Tayshia simply and cryptically said, “Trust the process.” Many fans assumed this was about Zac. One commented, “Incredibly sad. My absolute favorite Bachelor Nation couple of ALL TIME. Their love was so real and genuine. Couples hit rough patches. They need to work it out.”

Though Tayshia posted emotional photos of herself and Zac (sporting a new mustache) after they completed the grueling New York Marathon on November 7, her happiness was dampened by a trip to the hospital only a few days later. While rumors about her relationship status began flying once again, with some fans speculating Zac pushed her too hard at the marathon, Tayshia said, “I don’t want you guys to think that this had anything to do with the marathon because it actually doesn’t.” Rather, her brief hospital stay was due to “a really bad kidney infection,” which is now getting better.

Still, on November 18, fans noticed Tayshia’s engagement ring was visibly absent when she attended the House of Gucci premiere in Los Angeles. The rock has also been non-existent throughout two back-to-back episodes of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, which she has been co-hosting with fellow former Bachelorette Becca Kufrin. Some fans pointed out that, due to Tayshia’s intense training for the New York Marathon, she could’ve lost some weight and the ring is now too big for her.

Whether Tayshia and Zac are truly on a break, or if all of this is simply more speculation, the thought of them parting ways is a sad one for Bachelor Nation. Both experienced their share of hardships in the past – Tayshia went through a divorce and Zac battled addiction – and they seemed like the perfect match. Hopefully, if they are taking some time apart, it’s just what they need to rekindle the spark and avoid the club of failed The Bachelorette engagements.

The Bachelorette airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
