Justin Rego, the pro wrestler from Ali Fedotosky’s season of The Bachelorette, likely feels fortunate that he wasn’t on the show when social media was as big a deal as it is now. He might be at risk of being “canceled” for going on the show with what appeared to be a girlfriend.

Justin, nicknamed “Rated R”, was one of the earlier villains in the show’s history. Now, it’s commonplace to edit at least one character in a negative light. Some, like Justin, make it easier than others. And then there are a couple outliers, like Chad Johnson, who are genuinely problematic personalities that should never have been cast in the first place. Some leads do a poorer job of snuffing out the contestants who aren’t there for the right reasons. In the case of Ali, she was given information that led to Justin’s swift dismissal. After finding out he had a girlfriend, she told him to leave. In a memorable scene – if only for its ridiculousness – Justin tries to flee with a boot on his foot through a maze of shrubbery in front of the hotel they were staying at.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

That wasn’t the last we saw of Justin, however. He did return for Bachelor Pad season 2 in 2011. He has spoken out in the past, claiming he never had a girlfriend when he went on the show. He said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2016,  “They are playing with us and basically trying to get us to do what they want at the end of the day. No matter what we try, they will do what they can to get the result that they want.” No matter how you feel about Justin, those words have been proven time and time again to be true.

Aside from that, Justin has stayed away from social media. It’s a wise move, considering his comments would probably be filled with fans of the show reminding him what a jerk he was in 2010. He was probably not as bad as depicted, but also most likely wasn’t the right fit for Ali.

How shady Justin actually was will remain a mystery. He gave the show what it wanted, which was someone to root against, and had an unforgettable exit. It’s tempting to feel bad for the guy, especially if the girlfriend saga was blown out of proportion. Then again, he did come on The Bachelorette referring to himself as Rated R. So what did he expect?
