After falling hard for Clare Crawley on the current season of The Bachelorette, Jason Foster decided to send himself home upon her early departure. The reality dating show was hit with a shock when Bachelorette Clare Crawley left the show after getting engaged to Dale Moss, which prompted Jason to pack his bags and send himself home to mend his broken heart.

Clare, the oldest Bachelorette to be featured on the gender-reversed spin-off of The Bachelor, left the show after less than two weeks because she had already fallen for contestant Dale Moss. The 39-year-old hairstylist was replaced by 30-year-old Tayshia Adams. Tayshia was left with many of Clare’s potential boyfriend candidates, plus an additional four new faces. However, Jason was one man who was not left standing. The Arlington, Virginia native was the first contestant to receive a one-on-one date with Clare. On the emotionally intimate date, he was able to open up to her about his inner demons during only the second week. When Clare left the show, Jason was unable to put his feelings for the runaway Bachelorette aside and pursue a potential relationship with Tayshia.

Fortunately, the 31-year-old former NFL player appears to be doing much better these days. Jason opened up to the Washingtonian about his time on the show and how he is doing today. He told the publication, “Nothing’s changed. Business as usual. Back to work, back to my daily grind. So yeah, it kind of feels like I just never really went on the show.” He explained he had been cold-cast for the season by receiving an Instagram DM. He agreed to test out reality dating, despite not previously watching the show, and he chose to go into the process blind so he could get to know Clare outside of her online presence.

Despite seemingly having his heart broken, he harbors no ill feelings about his experience, stating that it taught him a lot about who he is. He said the date he shared with Clare “allowed me to let my walls down and become a little more vulnerable and emotional. And that’s something I’ve never really done. So it really did help me grow as a man.” The former Tampa Bay player also said he understood her decision and he is currently doing much better. He said he is very happy for Clare, who was able to bring things out of him that he needed to get off of his chest. “We had a really strong connection, but ultimately, this is her journey. It’s called The Bachelorette, and she was the Bachelorette. So she found what she was looking for, and I have nothing but respect for her and Dale,” he said.

When it comes to his love life, Jason currently has no one special. However, his appearance on the show has caused many interested women to slide into his direct messages. Unfortunately, Jason is not savvy to the ways of social media, so many of the messages have been left unread. Though he is currently focused on work, he does not rule out the chance of appearing on a season of Bachelor in Paradise if he hasn’t found love by then. However, he is not currently on any dating apps.

According to his ABC profile, Jason attended the University of Rhode Island. After college, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before playing in Vancouver for the BC Lions. The former offensive lineman was able to shed 120 pounds after leaving the NFL to focus on his health, and he now works in IT staffing and solutions. Though Jason is currently single, fans of the reality dating franchise can continue to follow Tayshia’s quest for love by tuning into new episodes of The Bachelorette on ABC.

The Bachelorette season 16 airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
