Recently on The Bachelorette, Michelle Young sent contestant Joe Coleman home after overnight dates – and it was probably the right decision in the grand scheme of things. Overall, Michelle is someone who knows what she wants, and there are certain boxes that she needs to be checked by the man she ends up choosing in the end. Despite Joe seeming like he was a good match, Michelle had to follow her heart. Right now, Michelle’s heart is leading her in two other directions.

Even though Joe made it all the way to the fantasy suites, he and Michelle had a surprising start before the show even started. Michelle had slid into his DMs before going on The Bachelor, but Joe ended up ghosting her back then. Nonetheless, despite their rocky beginnings, the two quickly began to bond on the show. Michelle appreciated her and Joe’s shared backgrounds in basketball, and he also stayed out of all the drama on The Bachelorette season 18. It was no surprise that Joe got to the fantasy suites episode. On their overnight date, he also made his feelings for Michelle very clear. Unfortunately, though, Michelle felt like her connections with the other men were stronger, and tearfully said goodbye to Joe.

Michelle has repeatedly said that she wants her partner to be her best friend. As such, she is looking for a fun relationship like the one her parents have. Alas, this episode made it clear that there are substantial personality differences between Joe and Michelle. Although there were many fans who felt Joe and Michelle were a perfect match, the two seemed very different during this latest episode. Michelle is extremely extroverted, while Joe is very introverted. Michelle even commented that, sometimes, it’s hard to pull out his goofy side.

But when it comes to some of the things that Joe lacks, Michelle has found them in her two remaining men: Brandon Jones and Nayte Olukoya. It’s clear now that she has a stronger connection with them, but that doesn’t mean that Michelle didn’t care about Joe. She had a very difficult time sending Joe home which, unfortunately, comes with being the Bachelorette. Michelle has had to send home several men she’s developed feelings for, and it never gets any easier.

Of course, there are some fans who think Michelle made a mistake by eliminating Joe at this point in the season. There was a lot of compatibility between her and Joe given that they live in the same city and share a passion for basketball. Therefore, it might have been easier to start a life with Joe: no one would have to relocate, their families could spend time together, and they both know what it’s like to grow up with the pressures of sports. However, just because Joe would be a convenient partner to choose, that doesn’t mean he was the right choice.

All of it is ultimately Michelle’s decision, and The Bachelorette lead has to do what feels right to her. Many viewers thought that, in the end, it would come down to a choice between Joe and Nayte. Thus, these fans were surprised to see Joe get sent home now. On the other hand, Michelle did what was best for her heart. If she felt more love with the other two men on the show, then she made the right choice.
