Fans of the Left 4 Dead franchise have finally had their patience rewarded with the release of the Back 4 Blood. Like its predecessors, Back 4 Blood pits a team of four players against the undead in a series of gruesome campaign missions, each packed with intense zombie-slaying action.

The Back 4 Blood campaign is excellent. It is reminiscent of its predecessors while also adding a fresh gameplay experience. As with any game, some missions within the Back 4 Blood campaign stand out above the others and are simply brilliant.

10 Bar Room Blitz

Bar Room Blitz requires players to hole up in a bar and distract the Ridden while the buses are loaded before escaping from the location in a Humvee. The mission is almost certainly a homage to the iconic ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ scene in Shaun of the Dead, for it requires players to defend a bar and kill zombies to the sound of a jaunty rock tune.

Bar Room Blitz is one of the best missions because it is fun and arcade-like while staying true to the intense and terrifying survival aspects that make Back 4 Blood a great zombie game.

9 Garden Party

On the way to meet Rogers at his mansion, the Cleaners must pass through a very creepy botanical garden riddled with Ridden. Garden Party is one of the scarier missions on the game, mainly due to the contrast between the peaceful garden backdrop and the hordes of killer zombies waiting to separate players from their innards.

Another reason why Garden Party is one of the best missions in Back 4 Blood is due to the hedge maze towards the end of the mission. A maze provides the perfect platform for intense zombie action, and the maze in Garden Party makes for very tense and scary gameplay, especially when the horde is alerted on Nightmare difficulty.

8 T-5

T-5 marks a significant milestone in the Back 4 Blood storyline, as it is the moment that gives humanity a glimmer of hope. Rogers gives the Cleaners an impressive demonstration of the new T-5 weapon he has been working on, which severely weakens the Ridden. After the demonstration, the hordes come running, and Cleaners must gather Roger’s research and escape.

T-5 is one of the best and most intense missions in Back 4 Blood because of how significant the task is. The Cleaners must gather research that the fate of humanity depends upon, all while fighting off hordes of Ridden and an Ogre, which makes for a thrilling gameplay experience.

7 Hell’s Bells

Hell’s Bells contains all of the ingredients that make a terrifying horror game mission. Cleaners must reach the Church to help fortify it from the Ridden, but to get there, they must traverse through a creepy graveyard engulfed by a thick fog.

Hell’s Bells provides players with one of the best gameplay experiences of all the Back 4 Blood missions, with the thick fog masking all but the screams of the bloodthirsty Ridden, leaving Cleaners to hopelessly stumble around the level fearing for their lives.

6 Making The Grade

Making the Grade requires Cleaners to search for key chemicals that will help create more T-5 bombs. The mission is packed with action, featuring two boss fights all within the backdrop of a middle school, making for an intense and interesting gameplay experience.

There are few settings more chilling than a middle school infested with repulsive Ridden nests and packed with the legions of zombies that have emerged from them. At some point, every middle school pupil in a boring class has daydreamed about what they would do if the zombie apocalypse began, however, the reality depicted in Back 4 Blood’s Making the Grade is more gruesome than any middle-schooler could imagine.

5 The Crossing

The Crossing requires a massive amount of teamwork between the Cleaners, particularly on the higher difficulties. Players are required to fight their way across a half-destroyed bridge crawling with throngs of Ridden, which makes for very satisfying, arcade-like gameplay.

The climax of The Crossing is incredibly exciting and makes the mission one of the best in Back 4 Blood. Cleaners are required to blow up the bridge and cut off the horde; teamwork is essential in this phase of the mission. While two players must head into the belly of the beast and plant the explosives, the other two must defend the exit and hold off the hordes, which naturally makes for a very intense few minutes.

4 The Broken Bird

The Broken Bird drops Cleaners into a wreckage that happens to be infested with bloodthirsty Ridden. The mission is to locate cargo containers dotted around the wreck and strap them to a helicopter for extraction, although this is not as simple a task as it sounds.

The Broken Bird is absolute chaos, reminiscent of classic first-person shooter arcade madness. The level is packed with many challenging obstacles, including boss fights, deadly water hazards, and hordes of Ridden, making for an epic and intense mission that is undoubtedly one of the best in Back 4 Blood.

3 The Diner

In The Diner, Cleaners are required to work as a team and deliver supplies to the diner. The majority of the mission is pretty tame, requiring players to traverse through the undead Ridden streets towards their destination, however, there is always a sense throughout the mission that there was something bigger afoot.

Once the boxes have been delivered, the final part of the mission is a classic last stand situation, requiring Cleaners to defend the diner in an epic battle against unrelenting waves of the undead.

2 The Body Dump

As one of the final missions of the Back 4 Blood campaign, it is no surprise that The Body Dump is so epic. As the name implies, the mission takes place in a wasteland where thousands of dead bodies were disposed of. The high concentration of corpses created a breeding ground for the Ridden, which simply had to be destroyed.

The mission is all about survival, requiring players to undertake their task while fending off multiple Ogres and thousands of Ridden. The Body Dump is very challenging and will require the players to use the best weapons in Back 4 Blood to even stand a chance of success.

1 The Abomination

As the Back 4 Blood campaign finale, The Abomination had to be one of the best missions in the game – and it is. The Cleaners are pitted an enormous creature referred to as “The Abomination” in the last stand to defend Fort Hope. The mission acts as the culmination of all the missions in the Back 4 Blood campaign and requires players to use what they have learned throughout to defeat the deadly beast.

The Abomination has a classic arcade boss-level feel, requiring teamwork, skill, and firepower. The mission is packed with action and is very difficult, making its completion very satisfying and rewarding.
