While damage is important in Back 4 Blood, it is also important to give the zombies something to focus on while the DPS teammates do their work. This can be temporarily handled by certain types of equipment, but nothing beats a true tank standing on the frontline, drawing zombie aggro from their teammates.

A quality tank needs to be able to out-sustain anybody else on the battlefield, and draw enemy attention to themselves as quickly as possible. Paired with a decent healer in Back 4 Blood, a tank can buy their damage-dealers an abundance of time to clear the path to the safehouse. the only thing that makes a tank better is when they are able to dish out damage at the same time. This build allows tanks to both deal damage, and take plenty of it, without falling too quickly.

As opposed to leaning into damage resistance, this build focuses on damage mitigation via self-healing. At the same time, it amplifies melee weapon damage to ensure that the tank is able to finish off zombies, which rewards them with extra health to keep them alive.

The Best Tank Build in Back 4 Blood

Since this build takes a different angle on the “tank” role, there are two characters that are useful for different reasons. It will largely come down to what feels better in-game, since cards cannot be tested in Back 4 Blood’s Practice Range. Here are the preferred characters, and why:

  • Evangelo: Can break out of grabs, +75% Breakout Speed, +5% Movement Speed, +25% Stamina Regen, starts with a Molotov.
  • Holly: Recovers 10 Stamina after killing a Ridden, +25 Team Stamina, +10% Damage Resistance, starts with a Stun Gun.

After selecting the character, it is time to build the deck. Here are the preferred cards for this self-healing melee tank build:

  • Berserker: Gain 10% Melee Damage, 10% Melee Speed, and 5% Move Speed for each melee kill in the last 4 seconds.
  • Battle Lust: Melee kills heal two health.
  • Brazen: +30% Melee Stamina Efficiency, +3-% Melee Attack Speed, -5% Damage Resistance.
  • Cross Trainers: +20% Stamina, +20% Stamina Regen, +3% Move Speed, +5 Health.
  • Dash: +5% Move Speed.
  • Fleet of Foot: +10% Move Speed, -5% Damage Resistance.
  • Superior Cardio: +50% Sprint Efficiency, +5 Health.
  • Evasive Action: Gain a 20% Movement Speed boost for three seconds you take a hit of 10 or more damage.
  • Wounded Animal: Kills while at Critical Health recover 1 Health.
  • Durable: +15% Trauma Resistance, +5 Health.
  • Meth Head: +40% Melee Attack Speed, +40% Melee Stamina Efficiency. Your melee attacks no longer stick in tough enemies. Disables Aim Down Sights.
  • Slugger: +5 Health, +10% Melee Stamina Efficiency, +20% Melee Attack Speed.
  • Mugger: Melee kills have a 2% chance to spawn ammo
  • Batter Up: +50% Melee Damage, +5 Health.

With his build, a player can mow down hordes of enemies, and be rewarded with ridiculous levels of sustain for doing so.
