WB Games’ and Turtle Rock Studios’ roadmap for Back 4 Blood promises a Solo Offline Mode will go live sometime in December 2021. As somewhat of a spiritual successor to Valve’s Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood provides a whole host of fun for those itching for some zombie-slaying co-op action. But the latest online experience from Turtle Rock isn’t without its flaws, many of which could be resolved in post-launch updates.

The title launched digitally and at retail a little less than a month ago, proving itself as a robust multiplayer offering with tons of promise. However, players quickly began noticing missteps here and there that continue to hinder the experience. Many believe, for instance, that Back 4 Blood needs a Left 4 Dead-style Versus Campaign. In addition, Back 4 Blood’s Swarm Mode could use a few tweaks. The comparatively limited Solo Campaign leaves a lot to be desired, too, specifically given its lack of progression. Fortunately, Turtle Rock plans on sorting out this and more by year’s end.

Today, November 8, WB Games and Turtle Rock shared a content update roadmap for Back 4 Blood that outlines plans for ongoing post-launch support. Updates scheduled to go live this month include quality of life improvements and bug fixes. In December, Turtle Rock will deploy fresh content, including extra cards, a new card type, and fresh features, including a seasonal holiday event, new Supply Lines, and Ridden Practice Area. Most interesting, however, is the promise that December will also introduce a Solo Offline Mode with campaign progression.

All of the above is just the beginning. Throughout 2022, Back 4 Blood will receive three paid expansions, the first of which – “Tunnels of Terror” – will boast weapons, cards, exclusive skins, additional story content, and playable Cleaners and Ridden. Next year’s free updates should additionally debut even more player cards, another difficulty setting, co-op mode, and melee updates.

There exists a few ways with which players can access the paid content once it arrives. The currently available $40 Annual Pass comes with “Tunnels of Terror” and the other two post-launch expansions. Back 4 Blood’s $90 Deluxe Edition also packages in the Annual Pass; the same holds true for the $100 Ultimate Edition.

Despite being less than a month old, Back 4 Blood has already taken quite the hit in terms of concurrent player numbers on Steam. Last week, Left 4 Dead 4’s player count was considerably higher than that of Turtle Rock’s latest. The margin has decreased since then, but L4D2 is still on top at the time of writing, with nearly 14,000 concurrent players on Steam to Back 4 Blood’s 10,000. Perhaps the future content updates will help the latter turn things around?

Back 4 Blood is available to play now across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
