The Netflix reality series Bake Squad features host Christina Tosi, and it’s time to share information about her. The 2021 show has no eliminations or contestant turnover. The bakers have common goals, although they may choose different approaches to each challenge. Tosi leads the way and brings a sense of camaraderie to the mix. Her culinary background means that she has tons of experience with spectacular cake displays.

Tosi is as sweet as the giant cakes that she commissions from her team on Bake Squad. The four bakers give their all, and they shine when she compliments their ideas. Tosi also reinforces the fact that the individual team members have to help each other out (by transporting a build, as Cake Boss head honcho Buddy Valastro would) or by providing feedback. She doesn’t really criticize the bakes, showing only mild concerns if they look too heavy or fragile. When spending time with her guest that needs a special cake or pastry, she makes sure that everyone gets a compliment for their hard work. They may not win that episode, but they might win next time. As a reward, the baker gets their photo on the wall. They then need to recreate the bake for a special occasion.

Tosi is best known for being the founder of Milk Bar, though she has appeared as a judge on Masterchef and Masterchef Junior. The baking competition star shared on her website that she began baking by accident while majoring in mathematics. Initially, Tosi went to college to study electrical engineering but then explored other career options. For example, she considered becoming a translator while traveling in Italy. After a few years, Tosi decided to attend the French Culinary Institute in New York instead. David Chang hired her to run his pastry program within the Momofuku brand. She has a knack for creating and selecting standout desserts.

A space next to a Momofuku Ssam Bar opened up in a New York location, which meant a new opportunity. Of course, NYC is an excellent TV series backdrop too. Tosi took the initiative, opening up a different eatery to complement its neighbor. Her boss David encouraged her to take that leap. Milk Bar started as one bakery in 2008, in New York’s East Village. It has since grown into a chain of restaurants that focus on the sweet side, delivering a taste of childhood in each and every bite.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Milk Bar began to sell signature cookies online and in grocery stores, including Whole Foods. Many restaurants had to close for safety reasons and Milk Bar was no exception. The franchise’s management has maintained the practice as of 2021, while Food Network competitions practiced social distancing. Interested customers can order tasty Milk Bar gifts for loved ones.

Tosi expanded her branding into television and literature. She wrote four books, adapting her recipes for home kitchens. Additionally, Tosi founded an online Bake Club to keep people’s spirits up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Creating this community helped home bakers to develop their skills amid uncertainty, via friendly competitions and other creative outlets. In 2011, Tosi showed Conan O’Brien how to make desserts using candy and a hammer. Chef’s Table from Netflix later hosted her in 2018. This episode marked her Netflix debut and paved the way for the most recent 2021 show. Bake Squad is all about delivering good vibes and delicious pastries to viewers and guests.
