The next chapter of the Batman: Arkham series will be told in the upcoming Suicide Squad game, but the big question is where the series will go afterward. Suicide Squad: KTJL has the potential to shake up the series’ status quo in a major way, especially due to its premise. If the series does continue on afterwards, then what happens next is a mystery so far.

Suicide Squad: KTJL is the first title in the Arkhamverse that does not star Batman. This could be a sign that the series is going to move away from Bruce Wayne and start focusing on other DC characters. With the series not restricted to Arkham anymore, that opens a variety of new possibilities for the games. This expansion of opportunities could be the best move for the series yet. Even though Arkham: Origins‘ playable Deathstroke was criticized, there are plenty of characters who have potential in the series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

With so many directions that the next game could take, it’s almost difficult to theorize what could happen. However, there are some very strong concepts that would definitely be worth exploring in terms of both new ground and old. The Arkham universe of games is evolving, and the developers should leap at the chance to innovate with whatever title comes after KTJL.

The Canceled Damian Wayne Game Could Finally Be Released

At one time, there was a planned game starring Batman’s son Damian. A former Robin, Damian is more brash and hardheaded than his father ever was. Already a seasoned crime fighter in his teens, Damian’s history includes stints as his father’s sidekick as well as leading the Teen Titans. Although his game was originally canceled, and he wasn’t chosen as the Robin in Gotham Knights, there is plenty of reason to give him another chance at the gaming world.

Even though he shared much of his father’s skillset, Damian would feel very different as a protagonist. Cocky and sarcastic, Damian would show off a more informal approach to crime fighting, almost closer to the wisecracking style of Spider-Man than his father’s stern, taciturn crusade. A game starring Damian would likely feature several familiar elements, such as fighting and solving puzzles. However, Damian’s own personality would add a unique flavor. In addition, thanks to recent developments in Damian’s own comic series, there is a chance for significant appearances by Damian’s new love interest Flatline and the previously-underused villain Lord Death Man.

Damian may have his father’s skills and legacy, but it’s his personality that sets him apart. Even if KTJL shows why DC needs Batman, Damian’s own approach to crime-solving can show his own flair for superhero work. He may be more aggressive and mouthy than Batman, but his own skills are just as valid. A Damian Wayne game has already been considered, so the possibility is definitely out there. Soon it may be time to revive the concept.

A Batman Beyond Game Could Show The Future Of Gotham City

Batman Beyond is one of Batman‘s more quirky spin-offs, but one that turned out surprisingly well. Taking place in a futuristic Gotham City when Bruce is too old to keep patrolling the streets of Gotham every night, he finds a successor to his role in the teenage Terry McGinnis. As the new Batman, Terry uses an upgraded Batman suit fitted with high-tech capabilities to fight a new generation of villains in Gotham City. While Terry should be added to MultiVersus, he would be even better used in a game of his own.

A game starring Terry would provide a chance for players to explore the future version of Gotham City, which has yet to make a proper video game appearance. In addition, the new Batsuit would also provide plenty of gadgets for the player to use, as well as Bruce Wayne himself to guide the player through the story. Placing the story in the Beyond universe also offers the chance to use that series’ rogues’ gallery, who have been sadly underrepresented due to more or less only being usable in Beyond. With a slate of villains ranging from the low-level Jokerz gang to the incredibly powerful Inque, a Batman Beyond game would have a wealth of antagonistic options.

By bringing back a well-loved setting, a Batman Beyond game would be a major gift to fans. With Gotham Knights contending with oversaturated Batman villains, the fact that Beyond‘s cast have not been overexposed would go a long way towards making the game feel fresh and new. With the Arkhamverse moving forward, the next stop could very well be the future of Gotham City.

A Catwoman Game Could Be The Arkhamverse’s Next Step

Catwoman has long been one of the more intriguing characters in the Batman mythos. Originally just another of Gotham’s villains, Selina Kyle has become a regular ally of Bruce Wayne as well as his most prominent love interest. She’s a shameless thief, but has no desire to be truly evil. This mentality has earned her a place as one of DC’s premier antiheroes, and it could also make her an excellent choice to carry a game. Batman: Arkham has not done Catwoman justice, but a solo adventure could turn that around.

Rather than Batman’s bevy of gadgets, a Catwoman game would primarily make use of her lithe agility and impeccable stealth skills, even moreso than previous Arkham titles. Catwoman’s extensive experience as a cat burglar would allow her to treat her missions as a series of elaborate heists. In addition to thwarting schemes across Gotham, Selina’s love of treasures could also bring about a second set of goals in the form of collecting artifacts, jewels, and other valuables from across the city. This could even lead to side missions where Selina has to pull big heists for priceless artifacts.

Catwoman is the most obvious character missing from Gotham Knights, and she is an excellent character to follow up on the Batman: Arkham games. As one of Bruce’s closest confidants as well as an incredibly skilled antihero, she would be a perfect fit for the role. Even though she may not be as moral as Batman, she can perform his duties just as competently.

With Suicide Squad: KTJL showing that the series is no longer specifically revolving around Batman, the next game can take things in yet another new direction. Taking some time away from Arkham to focus on other parts of the mythos could be an excellent way to change up the formula. Whatever happens for the Batman: Arkham games after Suicide Squad: KTJL should be interesting to see.
