The first season of Battlefield 2042‘s live service model technically hasn’t started yet, and a data miner has potentially uncovered some of the content players can expect when it arrives. Battlefield 2042 enjoyed its full launch over a month ago now, and the game has been in pre-season ever since. As players look forward to more content now that a significant amount of Battlefield 2042’s many bugs are being fixed, many expect Season 1 to deliver new maps and weapons.

Aside from the many technical issues with 2042, there is a noticeable lack of variety in the game. It currently only has seven maps and 22 weapons, including secondaries (of which there are only three). Battlefield 1 was the last game to utilize the long-standing Battlefield Premium monetization model, which granted purchasers access to all DLC going forward, the general extent of which was typically delineated to players beforehand (e.g. Battlefield 4 Premium players knew they would have early access to all of the DLC expansion packs). Battlefield V is generally considered a failure in the live-service department, but 2042 is making another effort at it.

Unfortunately, DICE and EA have kept planned content rather close to the chest so far, but some of what players might expect has been datamined by temporyal on Twitter. They indicate that the Battlefield 2042 game client appears to have 12 pre-season weeks planned, which would put the beginning of Season 1 in March 2022. This means the game might be out for roughly five months before it gets any new content, which isn’t a good prospect when considering Battlefield 2042‘s dropping player count.

A New Map Looks Likely For Battlefield 2042 Season 1

Datamined information should be taken with a grain of salt, since there’s been no official word yet, but it seems likely that at least one new map will be coming to Battlefield 2042 whenever the first season starts. According to temporyal, a previously datamined map known as Ridge may end up being called Exposure. It is supposedly located in the Rockies of British Columbia, where a landslide has damaged a research station operated by the United States and Canada. Russian intelligence believes it is actually a weapons manufacturing facility, and have dispatched No-Pat operatives to secure the area.

Another map is an exciting prospect, but just one potentially the March after Battlefield 2042’s release doesn’t make a lot of strides in addressing the game’s lack of content. It’s entirely possible that multiple maps will come alongside the first season, but many may end up disappointed if there aren’t also multiple new weapons and vehicles. Live-service content coming for free is always a bonus, but it’s obviously in Battlefield 2042‘s best interest to have it come quickly and regularly, especially after the disastrous launch the game had.
