In-game voice chat in Battlefield 2042 will not be included when the game fully releases, and the feature is currently missing for Battlefield 2042 early access players. The latest title in the series is releasing on PC and consoles on November 19, but some customers get a week-long head start through EA Play Pro and Battlefield 2042’s Gold or Ultimate editions starting today, November 12. Everyone who owns one of the game’s supported platforms also got an opportunity to sample its multiplayer during its October beta, which EA says was its most popular early access event ever.

Battlefield 2042 will see the franchise’s largest battles yet, as its Conquest and Breakthrough game modes will support up to 128 players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The latest entry is also introducing new game mode Hazard Zone, which has mostly been noted for its clear inspirations from Escape from Tarkov. Unlike Battlefield 2042’s other game modes, Hazard Zone’s player count is much smaller and differs between platforms. It’s a tactical mode which pits squads of players against one another with the objectives of looting and extraction, but it seems Battlefield 2042 players won’t be able to communicate with strangers without using external means in any mode.

Following early play sessions, PC Gamer reports Battlefield 2042 won’t support in-game voice chat in at launch, but EA says the feature will be added to the game “ASAP.” So far, no reasons for voice chat’s delay have been given. In the meantime, EA recommends players make use of third-party apps like Discord on PC and party chat features on Xbox and PlayStation consoles to communicate with friends. As for solo Battlefield 2042 players, they’ll have to rely on the game’s text chat, quick chat, and pinging systems (unless they’re able to organize with other matchmade players in order to use one of the above voice chat alternatives).

Voice chat isn’t the only feature Battlefield 2042 developer DICE has cut from the game before launch. One developer recently explained Battlefield 2042 won’t support 120fps on new-gen consoles, which are instead limited to 60fps due to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S CPU limitations. However, the developer did hint 120fps support could come to the game in the future.

Battlefield 2042 lacking in-game voice chat at launch may not be a huge loss for a portion of its playerbase, as some players turn off the feature in multiplayer games to avoid toxicity. When voice chat is added to Battlefield 2042, hopefully EA and DICE will have systems in place to allow players to report offenders in voice chat and penalize poor behavior.

Battlefield 2042 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 19, 2021.
