New episodes of the classic animated comedy Beavis and Butt-Head are in the works at Paramount+. Beavis and Butt-Head first released in 1993 and was aired on MTV. The series was created by and starred Mike Judge and followed the adventures of two awkward and less than intelligent teenage heavy metal fans who occasionally do idiotic things to stave off boredom.

The characters of Beavis and Butt-Head first appeared in a short film by Judge entitled Frog Baseball which aired on MTV. Shortly after, MTV commissioned a full series from Judge which would be centred around the two characters. The original seven seasons of Beavis and Butt-Head ran on MTV between 1993 and 1997. During this time, a Beavis and Butt-Head film was also released, entitled Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. After 1997, the two characters were not heard from for some time until MTV commissioned an eighth season of the series in 2011. Beavis and Butt-Head ran for one more year on MTV, and then was cancelled once again.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a long string of new original content announced by Paramount+ on Twitter, it has been revealed that Beavis and Butt-Head will once again be revived. According to the streamer, a new Beavis and Butt-Head movie will premiere on Paramount+ in July, followed by all-new episodes. The specific July date for the movie’s release has not yet been announced, nor has the dates for the new episodes of Beavis and But-Head, however, with July fast approaching, fans can likely expect this news soon.

Another major revelation comes with the photo that Paramount+ has shared along with the tweet. Both Beavis and Butt-Head can be seen in sketch form, and they are clearly no longer teenagers. Both characters are clearly middle-aged now, with Butt-Head in particular having lost quite a bit of hair, as well as appearing relatively unshaven and sporting a rather impressive gut. It seems that Beavis and Butt-Head do not share the same immortal qualities that so many other animated characters seem to possess with Paramount+ deciding to lean into the fact that it has been 29 years since Beavis and Butt-Head first appeared.

The reappearance of such classic characters is sure to be an excitement for many fans. The aging up of the characters is likely to only add to the new episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head. The characters aging along with their fans will likely keep the show as relevant for them as it was the first time they saw it, while the fact that Beavis and Butt-Head tend to make commentary on current society will likely manage to draw in new fans. How the years have treated both Beavis and Butt-Head remains to be seen, and won’t be revealed until July.
