Below Deck is a show on Bravo that follows the crew of a superyacht under the direction of Captain Lee. A deckhand is one of the positions on the ship for crewmembers to hold and they are responsible for the exterior of the ship. This includes things like docking, water excursions for the guests, and cleaning the exterior of the ship.

Some of the crew were better at their job as deckhand than others, as we watched some rise to the challenge and others fail miserably. It was easy to pick out the bad apple from a group as they failed to mesh with the rest of the crew. Keep reading to learn about the five best deckhands on Below Deck and the five worst!

10 Worst: Rhylee Gerber

Some may disagree with this, but Rhylee often caused more trouble than she was worth. We first saw her in Season 6, and she was a hard worker who constantly bickered with all of the other deckhands. She was right about Chandler’s incompetence in not sending her on the fishing trip but other than that her rants were just annoying.

Somehow she was brought back the next season and the problems only seemed to continue as her ways hadn’t changed. It caused a lot of drama between the crew as she forced them to pick sides in her arguments.

9 Best: Ross Inia

Ross Inia is one of the best because he managed to step into the bosun position after Chandler Brooks was fired. He did a great job managing the crew, and even handling Rhylee’s outbursts.

It was amazing the transition the atmosphere took when he was put in charge and we can only attribute it to his ability to guide the team. Inia was fair and understood how to put his foot down as any good bosun would do. It led to some great charters as they melded better as a team with him in command.

8 Worst: Andrew Sturby

Andrew Sturby was the worst deckhand of them all because he lied on his resume. He was in Season 2 of the show and was quickly handed his plane ticket home after he admitted that he buffed his resume to land the job.

This was not his only fault as he was constantly found interacting with the guests more than he should have been and chose to do this rather than performing his duties. He was allowed to stay on the yacht for some reason following his revelation to his crewmates, and eventually, fans were given a reprieve when he was fired for his lack of experience.

7 Best: Connie Arias

Connie Arias knew Kate Chastain prior to joining the yacht, but she was one of the best deckhands they ever had. Her calm and collected attitude never caused any issues despite the other turmoils happening amongst the Season 3 crew.

Many of the other crew members brought their problems to Arias and she managed to brush them off without hurting anyone’s feelings or becoming involved in their problems. Captain Lee was so impressed by her work ethic and attitude that he invited her to stay on after the season ended to transport the boat to its new location.

6 Worst: Trevor Walker

Trevor Walker was part of the crew in Season 4 as a senior deckhand beneath Kelley Johnson. He was one of the worst on the show as he constantly wielded his power for poor reasons. It wasn’t uncommon to see him spouting off commands before heading off to relax somewhere else instead of performing his duties like the rest of the crew.

He didn’t mesh well with his other crew members and many fans were surprised to see he lasted as long as he did before Captain Lee gave him the boot. It takes a lot for the Captain to give a member a one-way ticket home, and this deckhand managed to earn the dishonor.

5 Best: Eddie Lucas

Eddie Lucas was on the show for three seasons starting with Season 1. He began as a deckhand and became the bosun in Season 2 and he did an excellent job. He dealt with his fair share of negligent deckhands and somehow managed to keep his wits about him despite these setbacks.

We loved his attitude, but he wasn’t ranked at the top because of his final season. Season 3 he was very adamant about his love for his girlfriend and then went and cheated on her with Rocky. Lucas tried to lie to cover it up and it tarnished his reputation, but not enough to remove him from this list.

4 Worst: Chandler Brooks

Chandler Brooks was the Bosun for the M/Y Seanna in Season 6, and he failed miserably. We had high hopes for him as he boasted early on about how he had been working on ships all his life, but he fell short of the mark and was fired in the ninth episode.

He tried his best to guide the deckhands in the right direction and it always seemed to fail miserably no matter how hard he tried. Ross was eventually put in charge after he was fired, as he was the only one with previous Bosun experience, and we wish it would have happened sooner. All they wanted was a sense of direction and Brooks was not the man for the job.

3 Best: Nico Scholly

Nico Scholly was on both Seasons 4 and 5 of the show and his humor combined with his skill put him near the top. He sometimes came at odds with the other deckhands, but always seemed to find a friend on board the ship.

Captain Lee wasn’t impressed by his attitude when EJ Jansen left in Season 5, although, Nico still stepped up and helped out where he could. He might not have held the title of bosun at the time, but he acted like one until the end of the charter season.

2 Worst: Dane Jackson

Dane Jackson was hired during Season 3 after a deckhand quit, but it was far from a great hire. He had a drinking problem that quickly turned his crewmates against him, despite his abilities onboard to pull his own weight.

The crew was granted a vacation following a great charter and Jackson grew belligerent the more he drank and had to be escorted away by Eddie Lucas due to his aggressive nature. Captain Lee handed him a plane ticket shortly after because that behavior is not something he tolerates from his crew.

1 Best: Ashton Pienaar

Ashton Pienaar is at the top of our list because he is another who managed to move up the ranks to bosun during his time onboard during Season 6 and 7. We loved his attitude on deck as he worked his tail off and learned from his mistakes.

He might have fallen overboard and gone after every female crew member, but he always came out a better man on the other side. It was exciting to see him act as bosun in Season 7, and the way he handled Rhylee’s return to the show is better than any of us would have dealt with it.
