Below Deck Med: Inside Malia’s Relationship With Jake The Engineer

Rumors have been recently circulating that Malia White from Below Deck Mediterranean might be dating Jake, the engineer who appears on the show from time to time. If the rumors are true, this isn’t the first time the bosun has hooked up with someone on one of her boats. Back in season 2, she played the field with Chef Adam Glick and her bosun at the time, Wes Walton. The situation blew up in her face, as Adam started to become jealous and possessive of her.

After spending some time with each guy, Malia realized she wanted to pursue a real relationship with Wes. The two did eventually go their separate ways, seeing as she returned to the Bravo series three seasons later in a relationship with Chef Tom Checketts. However, this relationship ran its course too, as Malia announced in September 2020 that she and Tom broke up. She revealed on a recent episode of Below Deck Med that the reason behind the split was infidelity on his part.

On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, deckhand David Pascoe was a guest and was asked about Malia and Jake’s rumored relationship (via Monsters and Critics). David was coy about the situation and left it to Andy, and the viewer’s, imagination. It seems as though David never had a chance since Malia had her eye on the engineer from the start. Before the new season aired, there were glimpses here and there of the rumored couple on social media. Back in May 2021, Captain Sandy’s girlfriend, Leah Shafer, shared to her Instagram page a cute group photo of herself, Sandy, Malia, and Jake, at a golfing range in Denver. A few weeks later, the Instagram account @thelittlegatherings shared a post of their company creating a special night for the new couple.

The brand wrote in the caption, “Tonight we had the absolute pleasure of curating something special for these two cuties – @maliakpwhite was a goddess in that white dress + @bakeyjakeyy was equally as lovely.” Both Jake and Malia are tagged in the post, with Malia even leaving a reply. “This was the most amazing night!!” the reality star wrote. They each shared photos from the date together, however, neither of them tagged each other or shared a couple’s photo. While Malia isn’t spilling any details, all signs point to them being in a relationship. As of today, Malia has not shared any photos with Jake on Instagram, but he has. On July 21, the engineer posted a snapshot of the two of them celebrating Malia’s birthday. Jake tagged the location as Fort Lauderdale, where Malia has been living while recovering from her scooter accident.

Neither Malia nor Jake have commented on their relationship status since David’s interview on WWHL. While it seems likely that they are a couple, they could possibly be close friends. Viewers will probably have to wait for answers until the Below Deck Med reunion premieres later this year.
