Fans were left on a cliffhanger after previews for the September 21 episode of Below Deck Mediterranean implied that charter guest Eric Cotsen wasn’t going to tip the crew. Thankfully, Cotsen was just joking with the workers on The Wellington, and ended up leaving a rather generous chunk of change. Still, he almost went down in Below Deck history as one of the only charter guests not to leave a tip, making fans intrigued to know who he is.

Below Deck Med revolves around the ups and downs of the crew of a mega-yacht sailing the Mediterranean Sea. The crew-turned-cast work and live together during a charter season, welcoming guests and doing their best to provide five-star service. This time around, the team encountered Eric as one of the guests aboard the ship. He chartered the yacht to have a good time, including a “naughty game night” with the crew. But who exactly is Eric Cotsen?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to Cheat Sheet, the man is a retired “entrepreneur” who used to work with a college-prep organization called the Princeton Review. Eric belongs to one of the richest families in Malibu and certainly seems younger than his age. His former personal assistant is actor D.C. Douglas, who describes him as a chilled out individual, referring to him as a “30-year-old Beverly Hills trust fund bachelor” in his blog. Douglas has talked about his duties and how they worked, which sort of resembled a college fraternity. Eric can be found on Instagram, posting videos and pictures of his trip on the yacht. Most of his IG posts highlight his lavish lifestyle and fun-filled persona. Check out the unseen clip from Below Deck Med that he recently posted below:

Though it didn’t make the show, I loved our nicknaming of the crew. Here’s a snippet. #BelowDeckMed

Eric’s richness goes back to the previous generation. His dad, Lloyd E. Cotsen, was the CEO of Neutrogena. Not just that, according to The Malibu Times, Mr. Cotsen was once the 47th wealthiest person in Malibu. That means he was amongst wealthy individuals like Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. Based on the list compiled in the year 2000, Lloyd was noted to be worth $590 million. After becoming Neutrogena’s CEO in 1982, he made almost $148 million until the company was sold to Johnson and Johnson in 1994.

Considering that Below Deck Med guest Eric Cotsen belongs to such a wealthy family and probably has a lot of cash, it is odd that he made a joke regarding not tipping the crew. Instead, he told them to enjoy the gift cards. Odds are he just wanted to stand out from the constant stream of charter guests by making the crew a bit nervous, if only for a moment.
