Godfall offers a considerable level of customization to the player for devastating builds and power combos. The most important choice to begin any build is which Valorplate to use, as each of Godfall’s Valorplates has its own passive effect and Archon Fury special ability which dictates how best to use it in combat. As the player levels up, points can be put into a skill tree that unlocks and enhances numerous abilities and attacks to create a more effective customized play style.

As a third-person looter slasher RPG, Godfall plays much like a dungeon crawler. The game offers numerous build options across all twelve armor types, each one with a specific focus on one of the game’s combat features. Unlocking skills and exploring these combat mechanics will let players find what playstyle – and which Valorplate – works best for them as they fight to protect Aperion.

Most importantly is the recent updates to Ailments in Godfall. Previously, all six ailments caused the same damage over time effect. With the recent Fire and Darkness and Lightbringer updates, each one now offers unique effects, making the Valorplates more distinct from one another. These ailments will only trigger if the player’s weapon type matches the ailment they are trying to inflict, which can be found below a weapon’s classification.

Godfall Ailment Specialists: Bulwark, Mesa, Moebius, Phoenix, Typhon, & Vertigo

Godfall features six different Ailments: Bleed, Poison, Curse, Ignite, Chill, and Shock. Previously, these would inflict the same basic DoT effects regardless of the type. This has since been updated with each Ailment offering an additional effect. Each of these six Valorplates represents one of the unique Ailments, however, they all offer similar mechanical functions. Each armor has a passive 10% chance to inflict their Ailment, and their Archon Fury ability adds an additional 90% for a limited time.

While in Archon Fury, each of Godfall’s Valorplates deal 100% bonus damage to an enemy afflicted with an Ailment, and their attacks are temporarily turned into the corresponding element-type needed to inflict the status regardless of a weapon’s original typing. Each Valorplate’s Ailment will inflict a temporary DoT as well as the following effects:

  • Bulwark – Bleed: Damage taken by the player is increased while bleeding.
  • Mesa – Poison: Duration of the DoT lasts much longer, dealing significantly more damage.
  • Moebius – Curse: Damage dealt by the target is decreased.
  • Phoenix – Ignite: DoT lasts significantly less, but deals much higher amounts of DPS.
  • Typhon – Chill: Target attack speed and movement is slowed.
  • Vertigo – Shock: Target takes significantly more Breach damage.

As each of these Valorplates offer similar effects, their optimal skill perks are very similar. Maxing out the Ailment skill stacks an even greater chance to frequently inflict their featured ability. Rampage will let the player attack more quickly regardless of their weapon choice in Godfall, while Weapon Timing offers new, powerful attack combos with methodical attacking rather than random slashing. The key to inflicting these ailments is being able to hit the opponent quickly and frequently, so Rampage and Weapon Timing will give players plenty of opportunities to apply these status ailments.

Godfall Devastators: Aegishorn, Armistice, and Greyhawk

Shifting focus away from Godfall’s Ailments, these three Valorplates are heavy-hitters who specialize in crowd control and dealing serious damage. Having one of these in any multiplayer party in Godfall is essential for survival, whether using Aegishorn’s ability to strengthen the party or Armistice and Greyhawk’s devastating crowd control techniques. As a support tank, Aegishorn automatically takes 5% less damage from all sources. When activating Archon Fury all players gain 30% damage reduction, and each time Aegishorn is struck it emits homing projectiles. Armistice and Greyhawk, however, are built around the Breach and Soulshatter skills respectively.

Armistice passively deals an additional 20% Breach damage, but during Archon Fury, it deals 100% Breach Damage and an additional 100% damage to Breached enemies and Takedown attacks. Breach is the player’s ability to break through enemy defenses through relentless attacking. When a target is Breached they are staggered and weakened, vulnerable to attacks or instant Takedowns. Greyhawk similarly buffs Godfall’s Soulshatter attack; attacks deal 100% Soulshatter damage and each time an enemy dies from Soulshatter, they send out a shockwave dealing 30 additional Soulshatter damage which can easily cascade to devastating effect.

All three Valorplates benefit greatly from the Resistance and Recovery skills, making them even more durable. The Archon Fury skill should absolutely be maxed, as it allows for a longer duration of these potent effects as well as a shorter cooldown. Individually, Aegishorn benefits most from Vitality, allowing those projectiles to appear more frequently, while Armistice and Greyhawk should have Breach and Soulshatter maxed out respectively.

Godfall’s Skilled Warriors: Illumina, Hinterclaw, & Silvermane

If ailments and tanking aren’t a player’s forte, these final three Valorplates are all about Godfall’s precision and skill-based combat. Similar to Armistice and Greyhawk, Illumina focuses on Weakpoints. After parrying or dodging an enemy attack, a red ring will appear for a few seconds. Aiming the reticle in this ring and attacking will trigger a Weakpoint hit, knocking them back and dealing damage; It’s a great means of weakening a powerful enemy or disabling foes.

Hinterclaw, the Valorplate of Macros, is for players who focus on Crits. This plate focuses on Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage, looking to deal incredible amounts of damage with each swing rather than relying on a specific mechanic or Ailment. Finally, Silvermane, Orin’s Valorplate featured most in Godfall‘s marketing, is the perfect starter with significant boosts to recharge speeds on Weapon Techniques, the shield, and Polarity Attacks.

These Valorplates are more focused on being nimble warriors, so points in Finesse to increase a player’s dodge, sprint, and parry are essential. It’s also smart to focus heavily on the Shield Throw skill which will help players in a bind. Illumina will need the Weakpoint skill at full power so as to unleash a shockwave every time the Weakpoint triggers, whereas Hinterclaw will want to max both Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage.

Since Godfall’s Hinterclaw is built around each strike having a chance to Crit, Rampage is just as essential to get in those quick, high-power hits. Silvermane, on the other hand, needs points in Weapon Techniques and Polarity Attacks. This means their devastating special attacks deal more damage, recharge faster, and gain bonus damage when frequently swapped between whichever weapons are currently equipped.
