Battling through a region’s Gym Leaders can be a challenge for Pokémon players, especially if they don’t have the right types of Pokémon in their team. While there are some Pokémon types that are seen as less powerful, like Bug, Grass, or Normal, there are others that players have been known to covet for their powerful move-sets. Of the 18 different types available in Pokémon, there are three that many would argue are the most useful.

Powering through a Pokémon game’s region with an overpowered Charizard is not an uncommon approach for those who don’t want to weigh weaknesses and resistances. Fire-type Pokémon have a history of being decently powerful, with moves like Flamethrower and Fire Blast. If the Pokémon is a high enough level, the only thing the player may need to fear is a gym that specializes in Water Pokémon.

Pokémon X and Y introduced a new type when the games released in 2013. Fairy Pokémon have been a mixed blessing, introduced as an attempt to balance Dragon and Dark-types from previous games. However, Pokémons Fairy-type may be overpowered, as it is super effective against Dragon, Dark and Fighting Pokémon. Fairy-types are only weak against Poison and Steel, but that doesn’t seem to be enough to balance Fairy Pokémon, especially when dual typing makes those weaknesses even less of a setback.

Pokémon Attempted To Check Overpowered Dragon-types With Fairy

Dragon-type Pokémon have been extremely powerful since the start of the Pokémon games. With most Dragon-type Pokémon possessing a dual typing, and possessing moves like Outrage and Dragon Tail, Dragon-type Pokémon have often been reserved as some of the hardest Gym battle opponents and Elite Four challenges through the Pokémon game series. Even with the introduction of the Fairy-type to help players strategize for these encounters, the series continues to use Dragon-type mastery as a sign of true strength in both the anime and in recent games like Sword and Shield.

While packing a Pokémon player’s party with the most powerful types in the game may seem like the best way to obliterate any challenges they are presented with, the strongest Pokémon teams are those with a solid balance of different types. Mixing and matching strong types like Dragon, Fairy and Fire with Bug, Water, Electric or Ground gives Pokémon fans a well-blended team that can stand up against the different Gym challenges and trainer battles they will face while exploring any of the games’ regions.
