The ultra-popular open-world MMO New World takes place in the mid-1600s, forcing players to colonize a fictional plot of land modeled after the Americas. To do so, players must conquer their foes with a diverse collection of weaponry that is divided into four subcategories: one-handed, two-handed, ranged, and magical weapons.

The four subcategories include swords, rapiers, hatchets, spears, great axes, war hammers, bows, muskets, and a trio of magical weapons that wield tremendous power. Moreover, each weapon is codified by qualitative tiers, ranging from C-tier at the bottom to S-tier at the top. 8 Bow

Of the two ranged weapons offered in the incredibly long RPG, most Redditors agree that the bow slightly trumps the musket. Supporting the Bow as a superior weapon to the musket is Redditor THAKA2019, who labels the Bow an S-Tier weapon in PvE mode and an A-Tier weapon in PvP. 7 War Hammer

According to the same two Redditors, the War Hammer is at worst an A-Tier weapon and at best an S-Tier two-handed melee weapon. Ideally used in PvE mode, the mighty melee weapon inflicts the highest amount of damage in the game. While they’re heavy and slow to use, they absolutely devastate enemies on contact.

Divided into two distinct skill modes, Juggernaut and Crowd Crusher, THAKA2019 claims the War Hammer “scales well with weapon damage while applying debuffs through Armor Breaker.” On a different Reddit thread, garbagecan1991 classifies the War Hammer as an A-Tier weapon as well.

6 Ice Gauntlet

Ice Gauntlets are one of three Magical Weapons that clearly channel more supernatural power than many of its competitors. Labeled an A-Tier weapon by Thebewdubruh and an S-Tier weapon by THAKA2019 in PvP mode, Ice Gauntlets scale damage with intelligence, making it ideal for the most strategic gamers.

Aside from delivering immense amounts of ice damage, Ice Gauntlets become extra powerful through their two distinct skills, Ice Tempest and Builder. Per THAKA2019, Builder is by far the best accessory, “as it offers a defensive cooldown for casters, mana regeneration through manas, the Entomb skill, and finally, CC skills.”

5 Hatchet

Whether playing the beloved open-world game in PvE or PvP mode, most Redditors agree that Hatchets are one of the best weapons to use. THAKA2019 considers it an S-Tier weapon in both modes, while Thebewdubruh and Nanosam call it a versatile A-Tier weapon.

Whether chopping enemies down at close range or launching hatchets at a distance in Throwing mode, the easy-to-wield weapon increases its damage rate with strength and dexterity. When in Berserker mode, Hatchets increase damage and speed by 20% and allow players to replenish their health by 30%. As such, it’s a great option when taking on solo or large groups of enemies.

4 Fire Staff

Primarily considered somewhere between an A-Tier and S-Tier weapon on Reddit, Fire Staves are a type of Magical Weapon that comes with a slew of upgrades including an Accelerating Flamethrower and Empowering Meteor Shower. Life Staves inflict anti-nature damage that allows it to outmuscle every other weaponized attack in the game.
