Warning! Spoilers ahead for Beta Ray Bill #1

In Marvel Comics’ new Beta Ray Bill series, the Korbinite warrior and trusted ally of Thor is getting a new time to shine in the Marvel Universe, and his new romance could make its way to the MCU as well. When and if the fan-favorite character makes his on-screen debut, it’s quite possible that his relationship with Lady Sif and its new development in the comics could explain where Sif has been since Thor: The Dark World.

In the MCU, Jaime Alexander’s Lady Sif was a friend and ally to Thor alongside the Warriors Three (Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun). However, while she was featured in the first and second Thor films (as well as two episodes of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD), Sif was missing in Thor: Ragnarok. While this was due to the actress having scheduling conflicts, it meant that Sif herself was not on Asgard when Hela killed a massive portion of Asgard’s forces, including the Warriors Three. As such, it’s been confirmed that Lady Sif is still alive somewhere in the Marvel Universe, and her connection to Beta Ray Bill could explain where she’s been all this time.

While Sif and Bill have had a strong bond in the comics for a long time, Beta Ray Bill #1 from Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer is the first time where the pair have become romantic (or at least tried to be). Unfortunately, Thor’s recent betrayal of Bill by breaking his hammer Stormbreaker left him unable to turn back into his humanoid form, leaving him stuck as an alien horse-faced cyborg (putting a damper on his attempts to take the next step in his relationship with Sif). However, the fact that they’ve begun a relationship to begin with is exciting as it could potentially be the perfect explanation for where Sif has been in the MCU, as well as providing a means for Bill to integrate himself into its current Thor mythos.

While a future appearance of Beta Ray Bill in the MCU has yet to be confirmed, there have been teases and easter eggs in prior films, with the hope being that his debut will potentially happen in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Likewise, fans also want to know what became of Sif (who is confirmed for the fourth Thor film), so why not have them both appear together as a couple?

In any case, Beta Ray Bill is now off to forge his own path and destiny in his new series, seeking to replace his hammer in order to restore himself and leave Thor’s shadow, which he’s felt he’s never been able to truly escape. Regardless of whether or not he does find a replacement weapon, hopefully, Beta Ray Bill will return to Asgard soon to develop his new romance in the comics, allowing the MCU to possibly create some dynamic synergy with future films.
