The star of Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, Tony Dalton, says that the upcoming final season of the hit AMC series is “out of control.Better Call Saul, like its predecessor, is set primarily in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and provides backstory for a few key characters from the original series. The hit show created by Vince Gilligan first aired on AMC in 2015 and delivered four subsequent seasons, with season 5 airing in 2020. Season 6 is set to be the final one and will debut in two parts in early 2022.

The story chronicles Jimmy McGill’s journey as an earnest lawyer and former con artist, and his subsequent transition into the greedy criminal defense attorney that viewers have come to know as Saul Goodman. Bob Odenkirk returns to his career-defining role as the charismatic protagonist. He is joined by fellow Breaking Bad alumni Giancarlo Esposito and Jonathan Banks, who reprise their roles as Gus Fring and Mike Ehrmantraut, respectively. Other cast members from across its run include Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando and Michael McKean, to name a few, and Dalton joined the cast in Season 4 as the nefarious cartel boss Eduardo “Lalo” Salamanca.

Now, while promoting his upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye with Collider, Dalton takes a brief moment to tease Better Call Saul season 6. When asked what it was like reading the new scripts for the first time, the actor lights up and replies “very, veryexciting.” He mentions that audiences have “no idea” about what’s in store for them in the final season, and states that the story is “out of control.

You have no idea what’s going to happen. It’s out of control what these guys wrote. Out of control.

Dalton may not have offered details about what’s to come but his comments suggest that Season 6 could resemble the outrageously thrilling and violent nature of the final few seasons of Breaking Bad. A lot of the primary characters, especially the antagonists, met their demise by the time the story concluded, including the likes of Ehrmantraut and Fring, who had one of the most iconic death scenes in television history. In Better Call Saul season 5 episode 10, an unsuccessful assassination attempt by Gus’ men on Lalo leads to him discovering that he was betrayed by Nacho Varga (Mando). These events perfectly set up what could be yet another violent race to the finish line.

Dalton has acted in Mexican films, TV shows, and stage plays for much of his career. His role as Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul put him on Hollywood’s radar, making him more widely known and even earning him a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman in the Hawkeye series. His introduction in season 4 of Better Call Saul was a breath of fresh air, in large part due to his electrifying performance. It’s been nearly two years since the last episode aired, but with 2022 just around the corner, audiences won’t have to wait much longer to see the fate of the fan-favourite character.
