There’s been continued interest in continuing the Beverly Hills Cop franchise dating back to the mid-’90s, and now it seems as though Beverly Hills Cop 4 is closer than ever to being made. Producers Eddie Murphy and Jerry Bruckheimer have been on and off the project over the years due to issues like script problems, director switch-ups, and the uncertainty as to whether to make the fourth in the series a television show or a movie. Now, the directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are confirmed to be directing the movie which has found a home at Netflix and is Beverly Hills Cop 4 is reported to begin filming very soon.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Eddie Murphy has been living through a career refresher as of late. Ever since the critically panned A Thousand Words was released in 2012 and garnered a dismal 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Murphy has starred in just three movies. One of which was the acclaimed Dolemite Is My Name in 2019, which earned him numerous accolades. He also starred in 2021’s Coming 2 America, which shows that Murphy is willing to bring back the franchises which made him a fortune in the ’80s. Furthermore, Murphy made a long-awaited appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2019.

In 2020, the directing duo Adil El Arbi and Billall Fallah helmed Bad Boys For Life, the highest-grossing film in the American box office of that year. It is safe to say that they have now established themselves as filmmakers to look out for, and this comes off the back of the announcement that they will be directing Batgirl for the DCEU. As long as there are no scheduling conflicts or issues regarding the time that El Arbi and Fallah can put into Batgirl and Beverly Hills Cop 4, there should be no more postponement of the long-awaited buddy-cop action-comedy.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 Release Date

There is no set release date for Beverly Hills Cop 4. With the film being readied for production and Netflix being its distributor, the earliest one can expect to see Beverly Hills Cop 4 is in 2022 or 2023. Unfortunately, whether this will be the case is completely unknown. Another postponement might see the film being shelved for another few years, especially considering how the cast and crew have not yet been announced apart from writers, directors, producers, and Eddie Murphy himself.

Beverly Hills Cop 4: Who’s Joining Eddie Murphy?

Back in 2017, directors Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah were hinting in interviews that Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley would be joined by either Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy, or an actor with similar star power as a partner, making Beverly Hills Cop 4 a fully-fledged buddy-cop movie. It’s been four years since then and it seems as though that rumor might be expired — but with the same directors on board to this day, there’s still hope of an announcement of an actor of Tatum or Hardy’s caliber to join Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 Story Details

It seems as though the story and screenplay of Beverly Hills Cop 4 is the main driving force for it getting made. When interviewed in March of 2021, Eddie Murphy gave an update on the fourth Beverly Hills Cop by saying that he is “not doing nothing until the script is right.” There have been zero details made public regarding the story for this film apart from the names of the writers who are currently writing it. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are known for their joint work on Mission Impossible 4 and the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies while Will Beall is known for writing the script for Aquaman. Judging by the work that these writers have produced over the years, the story is likely to be filled with action-packed drama and comedic one-liners, typical traits of an action-comedy buddy-cop movie and especially relevant for Beverly Hills Cop 4.
