Big Brother: Elena Davies Heads Home Following Emergency Neck Surgery

Big Brother alum Elena Davies has returned home from the hospital following emergency neck and spine surgery. Elena was initially taken to the hospital on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, when she woke up with severe pain running from her left shoulder down to her fingertips. After spending nearly two weeks in the hospital, Elena has finally been discharged.

Since being taken to the hospital, both Elena and her mom have been posting updates to Instagram so that Elena’s large Big Brother social media following could stay in the know about the status of her health. During the first few days following the start of the extreme pain, Elena was in and out of the hospital, as doctors could not find a cause to it. Elena was also unable to lay still long enough to receive MRI imaging. Doctors ultimately had to give Elena anesthesia to perform the imaging.

Following the MRI imaging, doctors were finally able to locate the underlying cause behind Big Brother alum Elena’s severe, unknown pain. Now after two weeks in the hospital with severe pain and an emergency neck and spine surgery, she is finally headed home. Elena took to Instagram early Saturday to share the exciting news that she was finally discharged from the hospital. In the lengthy caption, Elena explained that the doctor had told her she had the “largest, bulging, herniated disc in a cervical spine” that he has ever seen in the last 30 years of his medical career. In typical Elena fashion, she turned the quite serious matter into a comical one, joking, “I couldn’t have just had a low-key herniated disc…? I really had to do it up Ripley’s Believe It or Not style!?” Elena posted a series of photos and videos, including one of herself in a wheelchair surrounded by balloons and stuffed animals, headed home. Amongst the photos was a close-up of her new scar located on the front of her neck.

Elena is currently in a neck brace and will have a long road to recovery over the next six to eight weeks. Because of the amount of pain she was in, as well as the medicine they gave her to ease the pain, Elena does not remember much of the last two weeks. She explained that while some memories are quite vivid, she has absolutely no recollection of others. Despite not fully remembering it all, Elena is extremely grateful for all of the kind words, messages and gifts that friends, family and even fans have sent her. Numerous fellow Big Brother alums were found in the comments section of the post, sharing in the excitement of her departure from the hospital. Soon-to-be dad and former Big Brother contestant Nick Maccarone couldn’t help but laugh at Elena’s use of comedy in her post, writing, “The Ripley’s Believe It Or Not line sent me.“

The last few weeks sure have not been easy for Elena; her upcoming recovery time won’t be easy either. However, the Big Brother alum knows how to stay in good spirits, always managing to bring a little comedy to such hard times. Everyone is sending well-wishes to Elena as she heads down the road to recovery.
