The Pixel Watch and Pixel 6a are expected to be announced by Google at its upcoming event in May. Following the unprecedented success of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Google might finally be ready to enter the smartwatch market with its own version which could shake up the industry. A well-known leaker has suggested a preview might be given at Google I/O of the Pixel Watch as well as the announcement of the low-cost Pixel 6a.

While Google is the developer of Android for smartphones and Wear OS for smartwatches, it didn’t launch its own Pixel phone until 2016 and has never made a smartwatch. The Pixel phone has always been an interesting option providing a pure Android experience with no bloatware and great photography capabilities, yet it never sold as well as other flagships until Google made a big marketing push with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Wear OS is similarly understated when compared to the Apple Watch and Samsung’s smartwatches. That changed recently also with Samsung and Google joining forces on Wear OS 3.0 and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is the strongest competitor to the Apple Watch.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A new leak suggests that the long-rumored Pixel Watch might finally make an appearance, alongside a budget-priced Pixel 6a at the Google I/O event in May. The source is Jon Prosser, who previously claimed to have seen photos of the Pixel Watch and predicted that its launch was imminent in 2021. Now Prosser is back with another prediction tweeting that the Pixel 6a will be announced in May and is set to become available on July 28, 2022. The Pixel Watch is expected to be teased at Google I/O with its launch coming much later in October, coinciding with the release of the new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

Is The Pixel Watch Real?

While no one wants to be burned again, Google I/O’s landing page does appear to have a watch theme right now with three concentric rings and blinking dots circling. Perhaps this is simply a countdown but it could also be a hint at what to expect. Rumors of a Pixel Watch have been circulating for several years but the most significant leak came in April when renders, supposedly based on photos of the actual product, were released.

Prosser isn’t the only source and other notable leakers have joined in during the last year with reports that this product is coming soon. The Pixel 6a is not controversial at all since Google has offered a budget version of its flagship each year since 2019. Google’s smartwatch feels more real than ever with Wear OS 3.0, and thanks to the success of the Pixel 6, along with the industry starting to emerge from the global supply chain shortage, the stars might finally be aligning for a Pixel Watch release later this year.
