The Genshin Impact 2.1 livestream, held August 20, 2021, included lots of information on the coming update. Developer miHoYo detailed Genshin Impact 2.1’s new characters, events, gameplay features, story quests, and release date.

Two new islands are being added to Inazuma in 2.1, along with four new playable characters. These include the anticipated Aloy, the free, five-star character from PlayStation’s Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy will be available earlier than expected, free for PlayStation Genshin Impact players at the release of the 2.1 update. She will also be available to PC and mobile users when update 2.2 eventually launches.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the new trailer seen below, miHoYo also teased some of Genshin Impact 2.1’s coming story. Players can expect new quests for the update’s new characters. Though only briefly teased, Scaramouche is making a triumphant return, and miHoYo revealed players will finally uncover Scaramouche’s origin by the end of Inazuma’s storyline.

[Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Genshin Impact‘s story so far.]

Genshin Impact 2.1’s Release Date

During the livestream, miHoYo revealed the Genshin Impact 2.1 update’s release date as September 1, 2021 – less than two weeks away, on the day of the livestream.

Genshin Impact 2.1’s New Bosses

The first portion of the livestream introduced Genshin Impact 2.1‘s new bosses, the most exciting of which may be La Signora, a weekly boss. The livestream hosts revealed La Signora is able to manipulate the environment around her during the fight. This, combined with her fire tornadoes and ice missiles, will likely make for an interesting battle. The other two bosses are what appears to be an Electro Oceanid and a Hydro Hypostasis. While there are already quite a few Hypostases in Genshin Impact, gameplay footage indicated the Hydro version has new attacks that appear more challenging.

Genshin Impact 2.1’s New Events

Next, the livestream discussed five new events coming to Genshin Impact in 2.1:

  • Moonchase Merriment: Part of the in-universe Moonchase Festival in Liyue. This event will have two aspects: Moonlight Seeker and Trail of Delicacies. In the Moonlight Seeker challenge, players will need to find Moonchase Charms and Mystmoon Chests scattered around Liyue by the Adventurer’s Guild. Trail of Delicacies will have players fighting against monsters with help of dishes they cook themselves to earn special buffs.
  • Lunar Realm: This event adds fishing to Genshin Impact, challenging players to catch a certain amount of fish in a time limit to win prizes.
  • Hyakunin Ikki: A free-for-all tournament held in Inazuma. Players will need to form six teams of two to combat enemies in exchange for many rewards. Players can use characters they don’t have in this event, making it free-to-play friendly.
  • Spectral Secrets: A returning event for the 2.1 update. It functions similarly to the Expeditions players can send their characters on from the Adventurer’s Guild, but instead of collecting normal items, new rewards will be available. There will also be different difficulty levels for each challenge.
  • Passage of Clouds and Stars: A login event that will give players special rewards each day, including free Entertwined Fates.

Genshin Impact 2.1’s New Characters

Finally, the Genshin Impact 2.1 livestream took some time to show off the new characters that will become available throughout the update. Kujou Sara and Baal have been confirmed for the first banner, bringing two new Electro characters to the game’s roster. The second banner will then feature Kokomi, a Hydro character.
