Actress Billie Piper has revealed that she is open to returning as Rose Tyler in future episodes of Doctor Who. Rose was integral to the success of Doctor Who’s revival back in 2005, and she remains one of the sci-fi series most beloved companions, thanks to her bravery, kindness, and sharp wit. Piper was part of the main cast of Doctor Who for its first two seasons, acting alongside both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant as the ninth and tenth incarnations of The Doctor, respectively. Though she left the show in 2006, Piper returned for several episodes in Season 4 and made a special appearance as ‘Bad Wolf’ in the show’s 50th anniversary.

Rose was the first companion of the modern Doctor Who era and therefore had a significant impact on the show, primarily because of her undoubtedly romantic chemistry with The Doctor. As it’s been over a decade since she last stepped foot in the TARDIS, more and more fans have been clamoring for Rose’s return to the series as one of the show’s most memorable characters. Despite fan interest, Piper stated earlier this year that she wouldn’t be returning to the show because of the way the role “dominates your life” and because she would have to spend a long time away from her children.

It seems that Piper has reconsidered and is now more open to potentially reprising her role as Rose. The actress has recently set up a Cameo page to raise money for the charity Choose Love. In one of the public videos on the page (via @WhovianLife on Twitter), Piper answers the question of whether she would return, stating that she would “if the circumstances and story were right.” She added that she feels she’s had “enough time away to really, really want back in on it.” See her complete response below:

Piper’s more optimistic and open attitude is good news for fans hoping that they haven’t seen the last of Rose Tyler just yet. The return of Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) in the most recent series of Doctor Who was well-received, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the show brought more fan-favorite characters back soon. With Russell T Davies returning as showrunner for the 60th anniversary and beyond, it’s arguably even more likely that characters from his era of the series could return.

Piper and Davies worked closely together during his first run as showrunner of seasons 1 to 4, with him writing some of Rose’s most important episodes such as ‘Bad Wolf’ and ‘Doomsday.’ With Davies returning to the show could mean that the circumstances and story would be suitable for Rose to return as well, especially with a milestone anniversary on the horizon. At the same time, there are no confirmed plans to bring Rose back just yet. That said, Doctor Who is likely to see the return of some familiar faces in the near future.
