Bachelor In Paradise star Becca Kufrin revealed that former Bachelor Ben Higgins gave her the best advice when she was trying to decide if she should be a contestant on the show. Because they had both been the lead of their own seasons and then joined subsequent shows, the two shared an experience that others on the beach did not fully understand. Becca was hesitant to go at first, but she was then convinced.

Ben Higgins had a rollercoaster of an experience during his time with Bachelor Nation. In 2015, he appeared on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette, and, although she eliminated him after their Fantasy Suite date, he won the hearts of fans. On the after show, he was announced as the next bachelor, and he eventually got engaged to Lauren Bushnell. They broke up in 2017, and the following year, Ben became a contestant on The Bachelor Winter Games. After not finding a connection with anyone, he left the show early. Ben was not the only one to appear on multiple shows in the franchise. In 2018, Becca got engaged to Arie Luyendyk at the end of his season, but he broke up with her when he decided that he would rather be with runner-up, Lauren Burnham, before the season even finished airing. The break-up was aired unedited and was painful to watch, but Becca became a fan favorite, and the star of her own season of The Bachelorette that same year. Becca chose Garrett Yrigoyen, who proposed to her in the season finale, but sadly the two ended their engagement in September of 2020. In 2020, Becca and Ben co-hosted a live touring stage show called The Bachelor Live On Stage, but it was interrupted and postponed until 2022 due to the pandemic.

On the Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation podcast, Bryan Abasolo asked Becca which of the former contestants gave her the best advice before she decided to go to Paradise. Becca chose Ben, saying, “he was the only one that could kind of relate because obviously he was a bachelor and then went to do Winter Games, so he kind of knew what to expect, what to prep for. Obviously on his time on Winter Games, he didn’t go for very long, and it was, I think, a really rough go for him.” She shared that he admitted that he wasn’t in the right head space to be there and wasn’t fully over his past relationship. He told her that “just being back in that space brought up a lot of old emotions and memories from his time as the lead.”

Ben’s advice for Becca was based on his own experiences, trials, and mistakes. Becca said that he advised her that, “if you truly think you’re ready to date in a public way again and can get through it and have a support system in some of your friends down there, I say do it.”  She said that everyone she talked to who has either worked on or been a contestant on Paradise has said that “it’s the most fun that they ever have on any season.” With her newfound love, Thomas Jacobs, sitting next to her and smiling, she said that they weren’t wrong and “out of everything I’ve filmed, Paradise was the most fun, worthwhile time I’ve ever had on, even as my time as the bachelorette, I would say.” Bryan and co-host Mike Johnson were impressed by that statement. It is clear that Becca is truly in love with Thomas, and the way he looked at her throughout the podcast showed that he is head over heels for her as well.

Although Ben didn’t find love with the Bachelor franchise, he offered Becca guidance that allowed her to open her heart and fall in love with Thomas on Bachelor In Paradise. Ben is now engaged to Jessica Clarke, a woman from outside of Bachelor Nation, but his experiences with the show surely shaped the man he is today. Luckily for Becca, Ben’s advice pushed her in a direction that may lead to a future engagement with Thomas.
