In the DC Universe, few forces are as powerful and intimidating as Black Adam. However, when Ultraman, the evil version of Superman from Earth-3, got his hands on the villain/antihero, he defeated the magic-user by hitting him where it hurt the most. In a scene that’s too brutal to ever appear in the DCEU live-action films, Ultraman grabbed Black Adam’s face and crunched his mouth in his hands, ensuring his opponent couldn’t summon more magical attacks by saying, “Shazam.”

In the pages of DC Comics, Black Adam is the ruler of Kahndaq and has the same powers as Shazam – but tends to use them in a more villainous and Machiavellian way. Black Adam doesn’t worry about who he hurts as long as he’s protecting his people and his country. The character will soon come to the DCEU, played by Dwayne Johnson in his self-titled film. Meanwhile, one of the most powerful villains in the DC Multiverse is Ultraman, the evil version of Superman from Earth-3 who’s hellbent on taking over the Earth and ruling it in his own image. When the two powerful characters came to blows in the Forever Evil storyline, Ultraman defeated Black Adam in one of the most brutal ways imaginable.

In the DC Comics Forever Evil crossover event from Geoff Johns, David Finch, and Richard Friend, Ultraman and the Crime Syndicate’s takeover of Earth-0 was in full swing. But, during one of Ultraman’s attacks, Black Adam intervened and revealed his intentions to destroy the evil Superman as he was a threat to the planet. Black Adam manages to land some powerful blasts at Ultraman by saying “Shazam,” but after realizing he was getting hurt with words, the villain grabbed Adam’s mouth and crushed it like a grape.

After snapping Black Adam’s mouth, he leaves him to die by dropping him into the ocean, as he only survives as Black Manta finds him and delivers him to Lex Luthor and his villain team trying to save the world. Ultimately, Ultraman delivered a blow to Black Adam that proved highly effective, as, without his ability to summon lightning, the magic-user doesn’t have much of a chance. The defeat is particularly brutal in the comics, as Black Adam’s squished face is hard to look at as Ultraman’s full force shatters his mouth entirely.

It seems like a safe bet to assume Ultraman shattering Black Adam’s mouth won’t appear in any DCEU films or live-action adaptations – at least as it occurred in the comics. Black Adam’s mouth getting wrecked in Ultraman’s hand is one of his most brutal defeats ever and likely too R-rated for his upcoming movie. Making Black Adam look weak is difficult, but Ultraman managed to do so with the dark attack.
