ABC’s Black-ish has offered a first look at its upcoming season 7 animated episode. Black-ish has been a TV comedy staple since its premiere in 2014. Centered on the Johnson family, the show stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson as the parents of five kids. Black-ish is an undeniable success story for ABC, having spawned two spin-offs, Grown-ish and Mixed-ish. A third, Old-ish, is currently in the works. Black-ish season 7 premieres October 21. However, before that, the show will air an election-themed special.

Announced earlier this month, the Black-ish special will consist of two episodes, the second of which will be animated. The first will focus on Junior’s first time voting, which is derailed when he realizes he’s been purged from the voter polls. The animated portion of the special will then look at Dre’s colleague’s run for Congress, which leads to Dre campaigning against him. Today, ABC released a first look at the animated special via the Black-ish Twitter account. Check out the images below:

The images are impressively accurate to the characters and should make viewers excited for the upcoming special. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there is a precedent for live-action shows doing animated episodes. Earlier this year, One Day at a Time did the same, with an outing that also focused on politics. That particular episode was well-received, which should bode well for Black-ish. It also helps both shows have a history of discussing important issues in an effective, entertaining way. The upcoming Black-ish election special airs Sunday, October 4.
