Rumors of Beyonce being involved in the Black Panther 2 soundtrack have been debunked. It took quite a long time for Marvel Studios to release their first black-led superhero movie, but in 2018, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther hit theaters and proved audiences were hungry for diverse comic book films. In fact, Black Panther went on to earn over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, on top of being widely praised by critics and fans alike. As such, it came as no surprise when Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced Black Panther 2 at San Diego Comic-Con last summer, with it being dated for 2022 at D23 Expo.

Though little is known for sure about Black Panther 2, aside from Chadwick Boseman reprising his role as King T’Challa and Coogler returning, fans are already excited and looking ahead to what they can expect. One aspect of Black Panther that was highlighted as being exceptional was its soundtrack, with original songs by rapper Kendrick Lamar and an original score by Ludwig Göransson. It was nominated for multiple awards, including Oscars and Grammys. Now, though it’s not yet known who will be contribute to the Black Panther 2 soundtrack, recent rumors of Beyonce being involved have been debunked.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Beyonce was in talks to sign a deal with Disney that would include her contributing to the Black Panther 2 soundtrack. However, no such deal is in the works according to Variety senior film writer Matt Donnelly. On Twitter, he debunked the rumors, writing, “Despite overwhelming excitement at the prospect, sources tell me there is no big Disney film deal for Beyonce, and she will not contrib to the soundtrack for [Black Panther 2].” Donnelly went on to say that it’s likely she’ll work with Disney again.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility for Beyonce to somehow be involved with the Black Panther 2 soundtrack, since the singer and actress has worked with Disney many times, most recently participating in The Disney Family Singalong specials the Mouse House has done during shutdowns. She also starred in the 2019 remake of The Lion King and appeared on the soundtrack. Further, if Marvel Studios and Coogler were to bring back Lamar to produce the Black Panther 2 soundtrack, it could make a Beyonce collaboration more likely since the two have worked together before. Lamar appeared on Beyonce’s 2016 song “Freedom” off her Lemonade album.

All that said, Black Panther 2 is still in early development and a little under two years away from being released. It might be too early for Coogler and Marvel Studios to be discussing who will be involved in the movie’s soundtrack. First, they’ll need to focus on writing/refining the script, casting the movie and then getting started on production. Given the all-around success of Black Panther, Marvel Studios and Coogler will have to meet very high expectations for the sequel, and that includes another exceptional soundtrack. While Beyonce’s involvement would no doubt help the Black Panther 2 soundtrack to meet those expectations, it remains to be seen if a future deal to collaborate will be struck.
