Black Panther 2 Could Make The Sokovia Accords Even Worse

The events in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could push the world’s governments to create a much harsher and stricter version of the Sokovia Accords. Indeed, it would seem that the Wakanda vs Atlantis war is inevitable. Whatever the cause of this conflict might be, there’s no doubt that a war between the two most powerful nations on Earth is bound to result in a massive and cataclysmic event – not unlike the events that triggered the creation of the Sokovia Accords in the first place.

The Sokovia Accords and the MCU’s entire Civil War story arc were the results of the destructive actions of Ultron and the Avengers in Sokovia. On one hand, the agreement is a huge step in holding superheroes accountable for their actions, with the U.N. being granted authority over the Avengers. On the other hand, as the Accords make secret identities illegal and mandate the registration, monitoring, and real-time tracking of all enhanced individuals, it can and has resulted in abuses of power. This can be seen in how the Accords transformed the MCU’s Department of Damage Control, which has gone from cleaning up after the Battle of New York to running its own Supermax prison and indiscriminately incarcerating enhanced individuals.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, through the Wakanda vs Atlantis war, is bound to make the Sokovia Accords even worse. After the war inevitably spills beyond the borders of Wakanda and Atlantis, there’s bound to be tensions between the U.N. and Namor’s people, who are all enhanced individuals. After all the very public and highly destructive events in MCU Phase 4 – most of which can be traced to the actions of enhanced individuals on Earth – the Wakanda vs Atlantis war could be the last straw for the U.N. In reaction to the aftermath of this war, the U.N. could attempt to override the sovereignty of both Atlantis and Wakanda by overhauling the Sokovia Accords into a new and more encompassing Superhuman Registration Act. In the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Earth could become a much more dangerous place for all unregistered enhanced individuals. The MCU could be at the dawn of a new Civil War.

How Black Panther 2 Can Set Up Secret Invasion

In Marvel Comics, the Skrulls allowed Civil War to happen and the Superhuman Registration Act to be enforced in order to weaken Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and the same thing can occur in the MCU following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. If the U.N. ramps up the enforcement of the Accords in MCU Phase 5, it could force more heroes into hiding or even just leaving Earth, making the planet ripe for the upcoming Secret Invasion. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if it turns out that the MCU’s evil Skrulls have a hand in causing the Wakanda vs Atlantis war.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s war could forever change the way the Sokovia Accords are enforced, and it’s possible that this is all connected to the Skrulls’ plans for invading Earth. In the comics, not only did Namor oppose the Superhuman Registration Act, Namor also single-handedly defeated several Super Skrulls posing as Illuminati members. Following Namor’s timely MCU debut, the Wakanda vs Atlantis waris bound to result in massive changes to the MCU, potentially laying the groundwork for the first crossover event in MCU Phase 5.
