Images from the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reveal Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Shuri’s (Letitia Wright) new costumes. The script for the Ryan Coogler-directed MCU film had to be reshaped to honor Chadwick Boseman and T’Challa. But now, principal photography is finally in full swing, with unofficial snaps making it online and giving fans an early look at the sequel.

After the critical and box office hit that was the original Black Panther from 2018, it was a no-brainer that Marvel Studios would green-light a follow-up with its creative team mostly intact. Unfortunately, due to the untimely demise of Boseman, who plays the movie’s titular character, the original plan for the blockbuster had to be reworked without him but also to honor his legacy. Not much is official regarding the story for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at this point, but few pieces of evidence float the idea that it will feature a Wakanda vs Atlantis war, with Namor the Submariner, reportedly played Tenoch Huerta. Meanwhile, MCU architect, Kevin Feige, previously confirmed that Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) will be introduced in the sequel first before starring in her own Disney+ series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Interestingly, not much is known about what the core characters are up to in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with news largely focused on newcomers. Now, however, a brand new set image from TMZ (via Black Panther: Wakanda Forever News) offers a look at Okoye and Shuri in their fresh wardrobe. The photo was taken on location at the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA where it’s currently filming. Initially, the actresses wear black cloaks to hide their outfits, but they eventually take them off as the cameras get ready to roll. Check out the images below:

It’s been previously confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will indeed shoot some scenes at MIT, but initially, it was unclear why. After it was confirmed that Riri Williams will be introduced in the sequel, it made more sense. At the end of Black Panther, T’Challa chooses Shuri to spearhead the science and technology division of Wakanda’s outreach program. That could lead to the Wakandan Princess recruiting Ironheart, who studies at the prestigious school. Thorne was previously spotted on the same set, which further backs up this idea, although it’s still unclear how exactly her meeting with the Wakandans will go down as it’s more likely to be filmed indoors.

As for Okoye and Shuri’s get-up, chances are that this is their non-traditional garb. But, it’s interesting that Okoye continues to represent the Dora Milaje by wearing an ensemble in the team’s color. It can be remembered that during the Busan sequence in Black Panther, she also opted for a red evening gown, so this continues that tradition. With the ladies wearing civilian clothes in these new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever images, chances are that they will also sport new Wakandan clothes elsewhere in the movie.
