Actor Danny Sapani says the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will amaze audiences. Sapani, who played Border Tribe leader M’Kathu in the first Black Panther, is reprising his role in the long-awaited sequel, with much of the original cast and crew returning as well. Despite the absence of the late Chadwick Boseman, Sapani, along with other fellow cast members, will be returning to more expanded roles in an MCU sequel hoping to be worthy of its predecessor.

Black Panther was released by Disney and Marvel Studios in 2018. Not only was the project both a box office and critical hit, but it became the first Marvel film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Without Boseman, who passed away from colon cancer in August 2020, there will be more focus on the supporting characters in Wakanda Forever, with Letitia Wright’s Shuri, T’Challa’s sister, expected to take on a lead role. Sapani’s Black Panther 2 return was confirmed last month, and the actor will be one of many familiar faces coming back, as well as Wright, Lupita N’yongo, Angela Bassett, and Winston Duke, to name a few.

According to an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sapani spoke about reprising his role in Wakanda Forever. Not only did the film reunite him with his fellow cast members, but also brought Ryan Coogler back to the director’s chair. While opening up about making Black Panther 2 without the late Boseman, Sapani teased that the sequel is “an incredible film” that will “blow everyone away.” Read his full comments below:

“You know, Ryan [Coogler] and the cast and the team at Marvel have just been amazing. We were very lucky to have such a family atmosphere. Obviously, without Chad it’s very different. But we’re gonna keep flying that flag, keep trying to tell that story because it’s just an incredible story and an incredible film … I don’t think you can compare [Black Panther and its sequel] to be honest with you. I think we’re just going to keep telling the story and honoring the great man. All of the people that are involved with that project are very close. I think it makes for a great sort of company feel. So, I imagine it’s going to blow everyone away in the way the first one did.”

With Boseman’s tragic passing dramatically reshaping the original plans for Wakanda Forever, there has been a considerable amount of speculation as to how the Black Panther sequel will adapt its story, and how it will address the titular superhero’s absence. Despite the tragedy and numerous delays due to set injuries and COVID-19, Sapani and the rest of the Black Panther 2 cast clearly have faith that this film will be a successful tribute to late King of Wakanda when it is released in November, and one that meaningfully expands on the MCU hero’s legacy and story.

The original Black Panther is still well remembered and beloved by countless people as a groundbreaking film, with Boseman’s role one of its most celebrated elements. And while the late actor has continued to be honored in comments from his fellow Marvel cast mates and crew since his passing, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is looking to be the tribute of all tributes. Thankfully, the family unit that cast members like Sapani have built on this franchise is already a strong indicator of a sequel that will not only be well-crafted and heartfelt, but also live up to the hype.
